"they are not perfect by all means and certainly do not think they are any better than another person in this world"
I wish I could agree with you, but unfortunately I can't. A lot of Christians here are great people but others give off this attitude of "I'm right, you're wrong" or "My destiny is secure, yours isn't" or "I'm on my way to Heaven; too bad YOU aren't". Seriously, from the way some of these people talk on here, you'd think that atheists and all "non-believers" are suffering from some horrible disease and only Bible-believers have the cure. They act as if they have this one, undeniable truth and everyone who may be following a different path -- Muslims, Buddhists, atheists, whatever -- is therefore lost and confused. The condescending remarks just really irritate you after a while -- and that's not even mentioning the whole "you're going to hell!" threat they always throw at you.
Again, not all Christians are like that... absolutely not. But enough of them are that they've developed a negative reputation on this forum, for that reason.

Christians are hypocrites. They say dont steal, dont commit adultery, dont covet your neighbours wife, etc
how many catholic priests have we heard about who are pedophiles? The pastor of my church when I was a teenager, actually ran away with another woman. His own daughter (the preachers kid) got pregnant twice and had 2 children without getting married.
Then they have the gall to tell non-christians that they must not do that.
The second thing that christians do that is very annoying is that they CONSTANTLY witness to the same people - telling the same people over and over again they must be saved, or they are going to hell.
The Bible says in Mark 6 verse 11 says
If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them..
which means if noone wants to hear your message, then stop preaching to them, and move on somewhere else.
So now if a christian says to me "You're going to hell if you do not accept Jesus as your saviour."
I answer, "you truely believe that I will go to hell?
They always say yes.
My response is " Then you have a problem because I know I'm not going there." and I usually walk away to get the point across.

i do no longer think of this is many times mentioned of ALL christians, even nevertheless that's particularly genuine of a few. even nevertheless; you advance an excellent factor. i replaced into raised a christian, even went to christian faculties as a lad. approximately 3 years in the past, i began out listening complicated to an evangelical preacher and additionally analyzing and reading the Bible way better than I had in the years when you consider that I left college. at present; i'm agnostic because of the fact i'm no longer able to locate evidence on the two side of the coin. I challenge any christian to coach God's existence. I additionally challenge any Atheist to coach he does not exist. It can no longer be completed. merely food for thought yet I in actual fact have faith the subject remember bears extra communicate. What do you think of?

I'm an Athiest who likes most Christians, but I can partially answer your question.
I believe most antagonism toward Christianity today is due to politics. Specifically, the way the leader of this country has used his religion as a rationale for his actions. But let's not forget the celebrity christians whose opinions (rarely christ-like) are sought by the sensationalist media we have.
There's more to it than that, but I'll let others add their views.
Good luck -- you're going to get some hateful answers.

We Christians aren't perfect! We're just forgiven! Fear not Lindasue, but take joy in the persecution for we are Blessed to be criticized and spoken ill of as was our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! What God gives you, what man can take it away? So if God gives you joy, don't let the wicked steer you into a detour! Behold, let God drive! He's got great directions! :)

We ignore the trolls on all sides.
There are nice Christians.
There are Christians who say, "Well, y'all find out when yer burnin' in the firey pit, ha ha!" or "Why are there still monkeys?" or whine about how Christians are the most persecuted people in the world.
We lay into the second group. I've got plenty of Christian friends. The second group embarrass them like you wouldn't believe (unless you'd believe pretty much anything, which is possible).

luke 6:22 Blessed are you when people hate you, avoid you, insult you, and slander you because you are committed to the Son of Man
All men will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. By standing firm you will gain life.
(Luke 21:17-19)
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ should shine on them.
(2 Corinithians 3,4)
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
(2 Tim 3:12)

Have you seen the hostility from some christians towards other people as well though? I can tell you that there has been plenty of it on many occasions.
Its all down to the individual in the end as you get good and bad in all walks of life.

Marvel not my brethren if the world hate you.
John 15:18-25:
18If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
22If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
23He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
