I'll be getting my snakebites soon (Professionally, no worries) and was talking to my friend about using spiral barbells. He said they'd look "nasty" and that I should just stick with the normal liprings. My other friend said he had lot of trouble using circular barbells with his snakebites, but didn't specify much. Now I'm nervous. Is it OK to use spiral barbells on snakebites? Will they be horribly uncomfortable or affect my teeth and gums in any way?

For the time being, the piercer will most likely pierce you with labret studs or CBRs (depending on personal preference and location of the piercing). As a piercer, I give an option between the two, but I will use labret studs if they don't have a preference.

You will want to take their good advice because the jewelry they give you will be easiest to clean and heal. Once healed, you can wear whatever you like, but know that everyone is different. I cannot wear anything other than labret studs because other things are uncomfortable to me (they tend to get knocked around a lot and it irritates my piercings even though they are healed), you may be different and do just find with spirals or circular barbells. Its all trial and error, just be sure you let your piercings fully heal before you experiment with jewelry.

I'd ask the professional piercer if I were you. When I got my lip done, it wasn't even up for discussion when kind of jewelry I got (except for gauge). Have you thought of going with just a ring for now and changing it after it is healed? I played with my lip piercing forever and it took much longer than necessary to heal. If you go with the spiral one, you're gonna have even more to play with, especially with snakebites.

Yeah, I just don't think they're made for a lip piercing of any sourt. I'd stick with labret studs or rings. Both will protect your teeth better too.
