You have to have A LOT of money to live that 'glitter and gold' lifestyle that you see on TV and in the movies. I'm talking multi-millions, at least. The strange truth about NYC is that sometimes the 'glitter and gold' is more of a feeling you have rather than an actual materialistic lifestyle. I know I feel great just because I live here. My job may be crap, I may not ever have enough money to live on Park Avenue but it's fabulous just to know that I live here. It was my 'big dream' as a child to be here and I came here at 19. I've had some really rough times financially but it wouldn't feel 'right' living anywhere else. The experiences I've had and all the friends I've made are worth way more than that 'picture perfect NYC life' that people dream of.

Most people I know here feel the same way. Life sucks sometimes but at least we are living in the city we love and I know I feel lucky for that.

I have travelled to NYC dozens of time on business and vacation. I would move there in a heartbeat if I could afford it. That city never sleeps, there is always something going on. It is said that if you stand on a street corner in downtown Manhattan you will see a celebrity for sure. I can't say that I have. Also, if you can't buy it in NYC it is probably not made, great place, great people on the the whole, some bad ones too, but that is the same everywhere. NewYorkers are in a world of their own, different set of rules there, specially traffic rules, a real zoo. I say wait a few years until you are of age then GO Girl, if you have the career and the money, best place to be. PS: I don't live in NYC, never have so I am not biased

Well, it isn't all glitter and gold!

Sometimes it is dirty and smelly, and when you live here 24/7 then you have to experience that along with the glitter and gold.

But all in all, NYC is an amazing place to live. You have the best of everything right at your finger tips. The city has as much to offer as you want to take advantage of. And when you just want to hole up in your apartment and be left alone, you can get whatever you need delivered right to your door.

i have lived in NYC since 1995 and it is truly the greatest place in the world! the wonderful thing about the city, once you're here, is that it is broken down by neighborhoods and becomes much less daunting that it might first appear... everyone has their favorite areas of town where they discover restaurants, stores, dry cleaners, bars and based on the personality of that area, you make friends that have similar tastes and passions.

when i moved here, i lived on the upper west side, then chelsea, then tribeca and now brooklyn heights, which is the first subway stop on the other side of the hudson -- i can literally walk from my apartment 20 steps and look at all of downtown new york. it's stunning.

have you thought about coming to college here? that's a great way to be with a lot of other people your age who are discovering the city for the first time.

i came here to be a journalist and while it IS pretty expensive, there are plenty are places to find cheap eats and inexpensive supplies. the biggest challenge is rent. it costs at least $2,000 for most apartments and most people that come to the city end up with roommates -- not that that's a bad thing.

i wish you much luck. anyone with the courage and panache to want to live in new york deserves the chance to make their dreams come true. and here, i promise, your dreams will ignite larger than life and change you forever! i grew up in virginia and lived in washington d.c. for a decade before i got here... and this is definitely home. i can't imagine being anywhere else!

i've lived here from since i was born. This place is actually really cool. You can do almost anything here. The place is so high tech. Even i, who lived here for 13 years, still can't be an expert on the places all around here. Our city never sleeps. (: Its an ongoing rollar coaster over and over again. lols. Its true (: Some places are a little dirty, but its just the population. Try fifth avenue or times square (42nd street), thats almost rich life there.

Its high priced like la is yet greater so. i've got visited NYC earlier and its actual a fascinating city, there is often something to do, in spite of the shown fact that its very high priced and extremely populated so at the same time as its a advantageous place to circulate to, i does no longer stay there.
