My cat is in major heat. We just got her and she isn't spayed yet. She tore my carpet up by my sliding door and pushed the door open and got out. I found out that she got with our neighbor (unfixed) cat one too many times. Not a big deal for me, I will deal with the consequences, so please dont say "get her fixed". Thats obvious , however she is still moaning and groaning and trying to get outside. She is driving me NUTS. I will get her fixed ASAP, but Im not sure if she got pregnant. If she got pregnant two days ago, would she still be in major heat like this?

Her still being in heat is no indication of whether she's pregnant yet. Her body doesn't know yet if she is. Plus, she can get impregnated several times, even by different toms, and they will all come out in the same litter. Your vet can test for pregnancy. Good luck with the howling.

The other answers already given are correct. If you have or could borrow a fairly large pet carrier or cage and keep her in there or in a bathroom for a few days she will quiet down or at least be out of range as far as driving you so nutty.
A vet will spay a cat in heat or very, very early pregnancy -- but once the uterus gets enlarged it can be done but is a bit more risky in terms of blood loss and infection.
You really might want to think about taking her in to get spayed later this week ... give it some more thought.

Here are the facts from the Purina web site as far as the "heat" process. I've been in your shoes before I got my female spayed. It was a nervewrecking experience!!

Q: How often do cats come into heat, and how long is the heat period?

A: "The cats’ reproductive cycle occurs in four stages. Stage 1 is called “anestrus.” It’s a period of sexual inactivity. This occurs throughout the fall and winter, when the days are short. As the days get longer and spring and summer approaches, the “proestrus” period begins. During this period, a cat will act strangely and will begin to look for a mate, although she is not ready to have sex with a male cat yet. Then comes the “estrus” stage. This stage is more commonly called the “heat” stage. It is in this stage that a female cat will willingly mate with a male cat. Heat lasts for about 5 to 8 days, although it can be as short as 3 days or as long as 20 days. If a cat does not get to mate during the heat stage, the heat stage comes to an end and the “diestrus” stage begins. Diestrus is a brief period between cycles; it typically lasts from 2 to 14 days, but can last as long as 30 days. The cycle (proestrus, estrus, diestrus) will begin again. During the spring and summer, a cat will cycle continuously until they are either bred, have a false pregnancy, or the days get shorter and the weather colder. "

One thing that will help her stop scratching (and prevent her getting out) is put lemon juice on the carpet. It's absolutley harmless to them but they HATE the smell of anything citrus. As for the moaning... she'll keep doing it and there isn't anything I know of that will quiet them. And she might still be acting like she's "in heat" if she is pregnant...

It's possible she's still in heat even if she's pregnant- cats will mate with multiple toms to ensure the healthiest litter possible (and of course, a successful mating). Good luck with the noise.. not much you can do to distract her from wanting to mate.

It is best to get her fixed, but if you insist on not going that route, then you will face what you are facing and she will mark her area.

Yes she can be, my cat had heat spells for over a week at one time. The longer you wait the longer the heat spells can go.

yes, and she could go on for a few more days yet, you wont be able to tell if she is pregnant though for about 3 - 5 weeks, maybe try and confine to one room in the mean time
