I agree with the ban on these dogs. This dog in particular had already shown its vicious side twice before, according to the papers so why wasn't something done about it then. The police don't do anything even though a law has been broken.

I think all dogs should be licenced, regardless of breed as there is no such thing as a vicious breed of dog. It is the owners who should be checked to ensure they are suitable for owning a dog.

It is the banning of these dogs that have led to Ned's, drug dealers and generally unsuitable people wanting to own these type of dogs. There are also genuine trustworthy people who own these dogs without any incidents.

You don't see people wanting Alsatians put on the dangerous dogs list, they attack more people a year than pit bulls but because they are used by the police they will never be banned. Alsatians, rottweilers, dobermans and other similar type of dogs were never bred to be family pets, they are guard dogs and should be treated as such.

Any dog has the potential to injure or kill a child, especially working type breeds. Can you imagine trying to pull a mastiff type dog weighing around 100lbs of a child, you would have no chance,

Don't blame the breed, blame the owners.

There were many people upset and PO'd about the pit bull killing the little girl. You are not anywhere alone with this issue. I'm not sure what the circumstances were in regards to the pitbull. I don't know who's dog it is/was. There was a discussion for awhile about banning the pitbulls but nothing was ever done to pursue this one way or another.

Rather than banning particular breeds of dogs, perhaps the law should focus more on holding owners responsible for what their dogs are doing. Pit bulls can be wonderful dogs, but they do have a history of aggression, and they should never be left alone with children. People who keep these dogs are strictly liable for any damage done. I think there should be higher penalties for people who intentionally train dogs to be mean and aggressive.

Following the recent death of the little girl, four pitbull terriers were siezed by police and put down.
The owners were charged £20 for each dog they had bred.

How pathetic is that? The innocent animals (and I do mean innocent, because those dogs in specific had not hurt anyone) were killed, and the owners were charged less than £100.

I agree with everyones comments on this subject, But i would also like you to think about where these dogs come from in the first place!? these people should of never been SOLD the dog in the first place!!! to poor, inadequate owners... so not only do i blame the owners BUT also the dog`s breeders,Who let them buy it of them in the first place! More laws if any should be place left right & centure! when it comes to the breeders & Owners of dogs!!

I think that its the owners who should be prosicuted the dog will only behave the way its been raised,if you bring a dog up to be a guard dog then it will b a gaurd dog, if u raise a dog to be a fighter it will be a fighter ,if you train your dog to kill then it will kill. people are more to blame than the animal it self,i breed rotties and i really do belive that its the way you raise them all my dogs have been very loving with no bad tempraments i do understand what u r saying it wasent fair a little girl had to die in such a way.

The problem is who will police the dog problem. The police can't even deal with the yob culture, and its mostly the ASBO types who have these animals as some sort of penis extension. Its definitely the owners who should be put down.

Surprise, surprise, the thugs and irresponsible owners don't trot on in to comply with dog laws, WHY would anyone think they would? These laws only affect the responsible, who are NOT part of the problem.
