make the jello and just pour in enough to make a "bottom layer" let that harden completely. the pour the rest of the liquid in, set the item down inside the liquid slowly so that it comes to rest on the already congealed layer then put it in the fridge so the rest can harden. Because of the added weight of the item on the jello, I don't know how long you could leave it sitting out without the item sinking to the bottem and losing the "floating effect". You might try the recipe for jello jigglers thats found on the jello box. The jigglers are "firmer" than regular jello and might be "strong" enough to hold the weight of the item for a longer length of time

I'm not positive this will work, since I have never attempted such a thing, but this is what I would do. You will need a container big enough to hold the office item and 2 boxes of the same flavor of jello. Make the first box of jello in the container, and chill it until it is done. Place the item to be encased on top of the finished jello, then, (in a separate bowl), mix the second box of jello and pour it carefully into the first container, making sure to cover the item to be encased completely. Chill until firm. I hope this works for you. Good Luck!

Maybe freezing the finished product for a while might extend it's firmness time, but I don't know how long exactly it takes jello to melt. Maybe you should do a test run to find out. Anyway, best of luck to you!

Nobody has it right yet.! A container of sufficent size, pour in about 1" of Jello, let it set. Place the item on the Jello. You can use the same or a different color Jello to encase the item..I would mix the Jello a little light on water so that it sets rather firm. You can't make it to thick.....

Make alot of jello, in a container big enuff to hold the item, and the jello. But only make the jello halfway, so it not completely made. Then stick the item in, and continue to harden the jello.
I learned how to do this on a show called Zoom, cuz they made blue jello, and put Goldfish crackers in it to make it look like an ocean.

jello doesn't melt (unless you put it in the microwave or put salt on it)
