i have Kenmore self-cleaning oven. it's only 3 years old, the flat range burner type. i can't find paperwork or warrinty for it, so before i call a repair person hopefully someone can help me out. last night after cooking dinner it wouldn't shut off, it grew hotter and hotter, the digital readout blinked F1 or FI. I have now idea what this means. the oven door then locked it's self, and wouldn't open. I had to unplug it, because i couldn't shut it off. and the oven door is still stuck shut.
Has anyone had this problem, or have a Kenmore and know what F1 means? the self cleaning mode was not on, that's the only problem i could think of. thanks in advance for any help or info.

Just 3 years old? Wow!....yes, maybe a new stove is in order. Repairs may cost more then a new stove.
Try to stay away from Sears products. they are not what they used to be. The Sears stoves are made by an assortment of companies, usually the lowest bidder.
Look around at different appliance stores, "gag" yes even Lowes or Home Depot. Fine out what the warranty covers and put your warranty papers in a "SAFE" place.

you probably turned on the self cleaning option on the oven. It normally takes about 2 to 3 hours for a self cleaning oven to finish it's cycle and it does increase in tempature alot while it is doing the cleaning. The door locks on its own to prevent anyone from opening it and burning themselves. When in cleaning mode it gets to be almost 700 degrees F inside. If you want just try to wait it out for about 3 hours. The heat should then turn off on its own and the door remained locked. Once the oven has cooled to safe tempatures, the door with then unlock. Good luck, I hope this helps, it took me a bit to realize how those damn things actually worked too.
If you are sure the self cleaning option was not on, try calling the store you bought it from, they should be able to help you out with repair.

Have you checked online? I have been able to figure out error codes for many of my products by going on line to the company website and exploring under areas that say things like "troubleshooting" etc. Many product manuals are available online! Sounds like it has decided that it is in self-cleaning mode!
There may also be a phone# you can call to ask your questions directly!
Otherwise you may have to call a priest!

Call Sears, they have a great repair department and will have someone that can answer your questions and often they send repair people to your house. They should be able to tell from the serial numbers, make and model, just what the problem is.

I just bought a stove, even though it was a Matag, I would guess your warranty would be similar. It was for 1 year only.
It sounds to me (totally unprofessional opinion) that the thermostat is broken. You need to call Sears and ask how much it would be to repair the stove.

It's obviously possessed. You need an exorcist. :P
I have a Kenmore in-wall oven and flat-top range and I haven't had problems with it though.

Call the makers of the brand (Sears) and ask them, they should know. It must have been kind of scary to be taken over by your stove.....
