My daughter is afraid of anyone who is in like a mascot uniform. Chuck Cheese, or my favorite is the cow at the mall in front of Chick-Fillet, she knows it's someone in there, but she won't go near them! She's 13, and still frightened!

My daughter, who is now 9, has been afraid of anyone dressed up in any type of costume since she was quite small. We were part of a playgroup at our church beginning when she was 1 year old. Whenever the dress-up clothes were brought out, she would attach herself to my leg and want to leave the room. These were her little friends dressed up in pretty simple costumes such as a princess, a bride, a fireman, etc. No masks involved. She has been terrified of Halloween as well. She has been trick or treating only twice in her life. This year she managed to go out trick or treating with her older sister and a friend for 45 minutes - that was quite a milestone for her. I used to have to pick her up from school on Halloween party days before the party started and bring her home. She would hide in the back seat of the car all the way home, then close the curtains and deadbolt the doors when she got home. We won't even start talking about clowns - all of my kids are afraid of clowns and the older ones are 27, 25, and 22 years old! My sister in law passed away just before my daughter turned 2. She collected dolls and all the nieces got one from their aunt's collection. The one that my 9 year old got has been sitting on a shelf in her bedroom all this time. Last summer she asked me to remove it from her room since it scared her. By the way, I don't think dogs are a harmless thing to be afraid of. I know many children and adults who are afraid of dogs because of a biting incident or being otherwise frightened by a dog's behavior.

My 20mo daughter is terrified of battery toothbrushes. If she so much as hears one in the other room she flips out. She also has a stuffed cow that vibrates and moos that makes her run the other direction. And we have a shiatsu massage chair cover that she will go no where near when it is on. I turned it on while she was sitting in the chair and she almost fell off the chair trying to get away, she ran all the way to the other side of the house screaming. It was so funny.

My soon-to-be 6 son is scared to death of helium filled balloons!! I have no idea why!! If he sees one floating in the air he goes ballistic. It's not the fear of them being popped....it's floating away that he doesn't like! And taking him to a fair is horrible. If someone lets a balloon go, he screams and we have to cover his eyes until it is out of sight. He is always afraid to go to birthday parties, weddings, the fair, parades, anywhere that he thinks there will be balloons. We were at a parade once and people were walking around handing out balloons and he started crying because he didn't want one. The man thought he was crying because he didn't get one. When he tried giving it to him, my son let out a scream and took off running. I had to chase him and hold him until he stopped crying. It's terrible. I took my younger son to the store one day and he wanted a mylar Spongebob balloon. Not even thinking, I bought it for him. When my oldest got home from school (he was 5), he walked in the house and saw it and then ran right back outside and took off down the driveway. Now if he has a deflated balloon and someone blows it up for him, he's fine! Isn't that crazy? He'll even sit on them and pop them.

I used to tell my sons brother (when he was 6 years old) that I turned into a monster when I was stressed out to get him to stop being a brat. So whenever he would not listen to his mom I would start groaning and swaying and grabbing onto my head like I was having a brain seizure. Then I would scream "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!" and I would go after him with my eyes all wide and panting like a wolverine with a crazy- devilish smirk on my face.

He really believed it. I thought he was going to pee his pants every time I did it. He'd scream "Benji! Don't!!! I'm your friend!!!" Then after a second he'd go after me with his finger nails like he was fighting for his life.

I guess you'd have to be there. I can laugh about this now because he's 12 and we have a good relationship. But at the time he was such a little punk brat. We deserved our little tortures.

Oh yes!!

And thanks for asking, I need a good laugh. Im really upset, you can see why if you click on my name and go to my questions, the first one listed.

Anyways, my kids are afraid of TONS of harmless stuff. I'll go down the list!

For my oldest, Miachel, He is afraid of Porcelain dolls, chicken legs, staplers, and most of all, the weatherman!!! He thinks porcelain dolls are dead babies put into glass so they won't rot. I have no Idea why he is afraid of chicken legs, but he wiggs out when we have chicken for dinner. "I DON'T WANT THE LEG!!!!" HE had a traumatic experience with a stapler, he somehow stapled a sticky note to his lip so I can see why he's afraid of that. He is scared of the weatherman because his dad told him that the weatherman is a guy who eats peoples brains so he is smart and knows the weather.

Bailey, 4, Is afraid of the most gentle thing there is: COTTON CANDY!! Oh, it's evil stuff! Just one look and she runs away. Why, I have not a clue!!! She is also scared of sombreros, ladybugs, and come on, dandelions!!!

Breanne, also 4, Is brave, but she has one weakness. She is terrified of the printer. I have a company I work for at home, so I print all kinds of junk. She HATES it when I turn on the printer, oh god, all hell breaks loose when I click print. It starts to suck in the paper, and slowly feeds it back out! For her, It is a TRAUMATIZING experience!!!!

Derin is three and is most afraid of the silliest things. Pop Rocks, the freezer, naked barbies, and for crying out loud, the mailman!!!! Pop rocks, okay, so they pop in your mouth, big deal, right? He see's a pack of them poppies and screams bloody murder!! Well, sadly, I know why he is afraid of the freezer. Not a happy story. Miachel shut him in there for about 7 minutes before I opened it to get out the frozen chicken nuggets, poor kid!!! You don't want to know the next one. The mail man is just evil!

Kaila, 2, has not yet been scared of much. Just monsters, blenders, oh, and cheese!! Don't know why!!

My youngest turned one month yesterday. He is afraid of the booger sucker and baths!!

my daughter was deathly afraid of cotton fluff...the stuff that floats in the air. Every time she saw it or had to walk by it she would scream her head off until sometime came to pick her up and take her away from it.

She was also terrified of those mushrooms that grow out of the ground....the wild ones.....she saw one once and ran so fast you'd have thought the devil was after her.
