What purpose is served by slicing braunschweiger on an angle creating basically oblong slices as opposed to round?

Hmm. I've never seen it like that. I would assume it is for one of two reasons....

1. Aesthetics - oblong cuts just look better
2. Surface Area - it's a good way to get larger slices for more "coverage", say on a sandwich

Well it might be "prettier" that way. It also might fit your sandwich better! We've always sliced it into rounds so I am guessing it is a matter of aesthetics.
