I have the TH37-PX60B, and the picture is quite stunning, whether from Freeview or DVD (which is the main reason why it won 3 awards in 2006). However, I've never been impressed with the quality of Sky broadcasts on any television...
As mentioned above, make sure you have decent quality interconnects, as cheap leads will noticeably degrade the picture quality.

If the keep extremely needs the sale........ ask them to reveal you the Panasonic assure and their's. Then do a aspect by aspect evaluation and note what's lacking . Personnally, 2 years factors/365 days troublesome artwork is fairly lame for a $6,000 funding , and really covers defects in both. this is not insurance ( Lightning hits etc...) it truly is a guaranty. So........what is going to the prolonged hide? Any damage? robbery? and for the way lengthy? 3 years? 4? 5? i might want to like it for no less than 3 previous the Panasonic assure expiration.

check that you are receiveing high signal strength on the sky options screen, if not, tweak your dish, or you may be in a poor area, freeview, check the aerial, alter its postion, buy a better one, check the set up on your tv, sharpness, colours, remember old films and programs will never look great, adverts usually look stunning on most tv's due to there cost and required impact.
Currys and dixons use cartoons to show off their tv's as of the bold bright colours and thick lines of the characters, try the cartoon channels, if all fails, the picture quality may not be up to, all that.

you are correct in saying the th42px600 is a highly rated set (the only thing that stopped me from buying one is i couldn't take it with me there and then). so have you checked all the cables etc. into the digibox as well as the tv set. if neccessary check and replace the cables as required. if this does not cure the problem try feeding the digibox into another input (it may be interfering with the freeview tuner within the set).

Have you calibrated the set properly? don't view or leave anything on factory default mode, the settings are horrendous. If you have calibrated it and don't see any satisfactory improvements, simply return it. That's old technology anyway. Panasonic just released their 2007 line up and the replacements seems to be better in picture quality.

Upgrade your cables. You'd be amazed the difference it makes when you swap your old came-with-the-TV SCART and HDMI cables for the higher quality ones. I'm constantly amazed that people will pay out over a thousand pounds for an HD Ready TV and then refuse to pay an extra £30 for decent cables.
