A microwave is a form of electromagnetic radiation, like radio waves. The wavelength is related to the frequency and the speed of the wave. The speed of radio waves is the same as the speed of light if we're talking about in the air, or a vacuum. So, velocity = frequency times wavelength. The wavelength of a microwave is somewhere around a centimeter or so.

The microwave has a magnetic field and an electric field. They are at ninety degrees to each other. They oscillate back and forth. So, when the electric field is at its peak, the magnetic field is at its minimum, and vice versa. Imagine the electric field traveling down the street expanding and contracting vertically. Then imagine the magnetic field going down the street with it, expanding and contracting horizontally. The E field goes positive and negative, while the B (magnetic) field expands and contracts in opposite directions.

Since microwaves are electromagnetic radiation, they don't have a weight, unless we're talking about being next to a black hole.

And, unless the microwaves are burning your nostrils, you can't smell them either.

The microwave oven uses microwaves to vibrate polar molecules. This vibration is kinetic energy, or heat. Since the electric field forces an electrically charged object to align to it, it creates physical motion on the molecular level, otherwise known as heat.

Think about that the next time you use your microwave.

A microwave oven, or microwave, is a kitchen appliance employing microwave radiation primarily to cook or heat food.
It's usually rectangular in shape, has a door which opens outwards and has a window on the door. To the right of the door is the control panel which contains buttons to control the amount of heat and time in which to heat/cook the food item.
