Sounds like an abcess, they can start from just an ingrown hair folicle or an irritation. Your friend needs to see a doctor to have it lanced, The doctor will clean as much of the infection out and pack it with gauze. A strong course of antibiotics will be prescribed to help clear up the infection and a follow-up appointment should be scheduled. Make sure your friend follows all the doctors instructions or this infection could progress into something very serious.

It is a sebaceous cyst or fatty cyst. You can have it cut out.
you could squeeze it but be prepared for the bad cheesey smell
not really a good idea as you will leave some residual matter there & it will grow back again.

If there is a pus or lymph coming out and it hurts like hell and it has a little hole or closed hole on the top - it is most likely furuncule - happens when infection gets under the skin and it gets inflamed. The puss needs to come out then it will slowly dissapear and stops hurting, but you shoulndn't squeeze it out - it has to "ripen" first. There is a "core" inside and this needs to come out first, then the pus will leak out itself. It is not contageous if you don't touch any broken skin after you touch it, so wash your hands frequently and tell him to put a plaster on it with a bit of sterile cloth underneath - like surgeons do when they dress a wound
