I take Zelnorm everyday but it doesn't really help my chronic constipation. I have tried fiber laxatives but they seem to make it worse. I drink at least a gallon of water a day and I do get exercise but nothing seems to help. I have taken 1 correctol tablet with my Zelnorm everyday for the last couple of days and everything has been fine. No stomach cramps no diahrrea just regular bowl movement. Anyone else do this or have any advice. I don't use it to lose weight!! Just to use the bathroom.

First and foremost--please see a physician about your condition. Without being an alarmist. this is exactly the kind of medical problem which a person thinks of as little more than an annoyance, but really requires a comprehensive medical anaiysis.

Regarding your ability to stay with Correctol long term, when I looked into the subject online (see my references link), I noticed this statement among others in the Correctol entry:
The ''laxative habit''—Laxative products are overused by many people. Such a practice often leads to dependence on the laxative action to produce a bowel movement. In severe cases, overuse of some laxatives has caused damage to the nerves, muscles, and tissues of the intestines and bowel. If you have any questions about the use of laxatives, check with your health care professional.

With that said, I can recommend one medication which has helped me. I'm on a diet as well as take medications which can cause constipation, so I have been prescribed to take a Docuste Sodium Gel Capsule (100 mg) daily.

One additional piece of information about this product which may be of interest to you--it is very inexpensive.

Here is some more information about this medicine:

DOCUSATE - ORAL
Pronunciation: (DOCK-you-sate)

Brand Name(s): Col-Rite, Colace, Correctol, Diocto, Dioeze, Doc-Q-Lace, Docucal, Docucil, Docusoft, DSS, Silace, Surfak

Docusate Sodium Oral Uses
This medication is used to treat occasional constipation. Some medications and conditions can make constipation more likely. Stool softeners such as docusate are often the first method used for preventing and treating this type of constipation. Docusate is often used when straining to have a bowel movement should be avoided (e.g., after a heart attack or surgery).

Docusate is a stool softener. It works by increasing the amount of water the stool absorbs in the gut, making the stool softer and easier to pass.

I hope this information helps.

You can use laxatives to help relieve the cramping you are having now, but you don't want to become dependent on them. I personally have IBS (though not from Accutane) and have to be really careful with what I eat because a lot of random stuff can cause diarrhea and/or constipation. If this is going to be a lifelong problem, the sooner you can figure out solutions to help you manage, the better! Make a food journal documenting everything you eat for 2 weeks and how your bowels react each day; hopefully you'll see some patterns and can start to adjust your diet. Another solution is exercise; regular cardio can really help with constipation. Finally, try acupuncture. I'm in my third year of school for it and constipation is one of the most common things we see; I've even treated other people who have similar digestive disorders as a result of Accutane. IBS really sucks, but it is manageable!
