Having recently been doing a lot of driving on motorways I have got more and more annoyed with these people that sit in the middle lane (normally at 55mph) when the inside lane is completely empty. This is even worse on the 4 lane sections of the M25. How annoying???

No, they are wankers, I usually find that they are totaly oblivious to their surroundings. Sometimes you get them sat in the 2 outside lanes forcing you to undertake using the empty inner lane. Its usually worse at weekends when the non profesional drivers are on the roads.

Research was done on this prob in the us. It was mostly women and the elderly. The main reason is fear of changing lanes. It is the main reason for traffic backing up, also road rage. A bonus in the states is u can pass on either side, very dangerous but it's done all the time. Another aspect is blind spots, and people are afraid to have a quick look over their shoulder before moving over. Which is why the young and confident don't have the fear.
Flashing lights, honking, tailgating will only make these people more freaked out. Solution ..make the driving test way harder. Or move to Sweden, they are some of the best drivers on the planet.

You Brits don't know how good you have it. There's a law in California that Slower traffic is supposed to keep right (we're opposite, remember), but it's flagrantly ignored and unenforced; and doesn't apply when there are more than 2 lanes going each way.

There's no law that you must be courteous to other drivers here, so you can imagine what we have. It's anarchy. You have slow people going to the fast lane, and fast cars passing on the slow side because nobody moves over for a car that wants to pass. If you flash your brights, people don't understand what that means, and you better hope they aren't armed and have a chip on their shoulder.

I love driving in England, even with all the stupid photo enforcement stuff and speed limits that don't make sense. I don't know why a carriageway that's barely wide enough for a lorry has a 55mph limit when a wide open Autobahn-style Motorway is only a little faster.

So, where you have the rare exception (probably a tourist), we are jam-packed with these fools. You have my vote for disliking them.

No I don't like them either, complete tossers. They should be rammed off the road by a large lorry, into a ditch by the side of the road (not hitting any other cars of course). If they survive, their car can be crushed and their license ripped up for maybe a year as a punishment. They should then have to resit a driving test, to prove they are capable of driving a car and how they should behave on motorways, so that they may understand to bloody move over when required. 70mph is fine for the slow lane, so that's where they belong and should stay. Whatever speed you go, whether in middle/fast lane if there is a car behind you, move over if able to! Basic driving. If a left lane completely empty, it is criminal for cars to cruise slowly along. That driver must not be paying any attention to the road, not using mirrors etc and can't be aware of lanes and other drivers.
If that driver knows full well of other cars piled up around him, and won't move out of sheer stubborn wankerness attitude, putting other lifes in danger, police should play a part as well as V signs through windows from passing drivers, so that these scum may finally get the message, so that we may all live a little happier :)

depends, if it is a bit of motorway where the outside lane is used a lot for traffic leaving the motorway I'll sit in the middle lane also leaves space for people coming on to the motorway, otherwise I stay to the left. Doesn't bother me if someone is hogging the lane I just overtake

I know you should try a 2 lane motorway where they stay in the right lane and there is no car to overtake in the left. I have had to undertake a few times, as im driving in the left lane and see a car in the right and no-one in the left and I stick to the speed I'm doing and i'm undertaking them.

Why the thumbs down - WTF am I meant to do then slow down and not undertake cause some idiot is in the right lane not overtaking. .

Driving these days is stressful and not helped by thoughtless drivers
( it may be that they feel safer driving "down the mid Lane ",
rather than jousting with the lorries in the slow lane .
Wrong and as infuriating as it may be !!!!!

If you come upon slow traffic, in the mid lane .

Do not allow your blood pressure to soar ( that is bad for you ),

TAKE* A *Deep* Breath!!!!!

The fast lane is for overtaking, calm down and use that ,
with care and consideration to others . .

have a Safe journey

I wish I knew. Drivers would desire to stay in lane a million until overtaking, yet there are this manner of super form of that are too lazy to worry - additionally too lazy to show or use mirrors/seem around. i think of this is a tragic case of "i'm ok, sod all and sundry else" physique of strategies. All you're able to do is tension appropriate and set an occasion to something.

This unfortunately is the truth, and cause of day dreaming: and/or a unprepared trip route when they decide to cut across four lanes of traffic within a quarter mile to exit the highway @45-55mph. it's because of lacks state laws w/ Arizona for one not requiring to renew your license till age 65. the truth is that we suck it up, or go to jail for road rage.

They are vermin.

Unfortunately, in this country everyone sticks to the "don't undertake" rule but loads of idiots like these ones you are talking about ignore the "keep left" rule. I believe this is why there is such trouble with congestion on motorways. Either obey both, or ignore both.

Rowdy: You have to move over. That's the law. And how DARE you presume to try and teach others some kind of lesson about speed limits. Look after your own ship and let others look after theirs you pious idiot.

Rowdy: Turning into a right little chat this, isn't it? Anyway, I decide whether I obey the law - that's my prerogative, and yours, and we each take the consequences. People who take it upon themselves to 'enforce' the law on others (particularly in an illegal and dangerous manner such as you do) when not being directly affected are one of two things - policemen, or arrogant wankers. Which are you?

Excuse my language everyone else, but it really does make me cross. I always suspected there may be people out there pig-ignorant enough to DELIBERATELY perform this selfish and dangerous driving as some kind of object lesson, but it's still a shock to discover they really exist.
