Many Christians say that god has helped them and give many examples on how they were in a car accident and almost died, blah blah, But...For those of you who have said that,

How do you know that maybe "god" was the one who made you have the car accident?? Maybe it was "god" who put you in a coma, and luck brought you back...did you ever think of that??

What about the poor sap that God didn't save? When a plane crashes and 97 on board are killed and say 10 escape with minor injuries. They always say God saved me. I feel sorry for the family's of the 97 God didn't save. What were they chopped liver? I think we are on our own. We wanted to rule our self, chose what was right and wrong. It was our choice to be on the plane. God doesn't go around making planes crash or saving people when it does. After 9/11 when a handful survived they said God was with me. Great, what about the 3000 or so that did die?

First of all, there is no such thing as luck. Everything that happens in this world - good or bad, happens according to the perfect will and plan of God. To suggest that God caused the accident is like saying that God attempted murder, which is totally ridiculous! Accidents and tragedies happen because of mans' sinful nature and imperfectness. Drunk drivers, for example: when they cause accidents and kill innocent people because of their stupidity, neglect and carelessness, the accident is due to his/her sin: drinking and driving. The deaths that occur because of the accident is a result of what happens when someone is irresponsible and careless - a result of their sin. Is it God's fault that he/she got behind the wheel and drove while drinking?? NO! God is NOT responsible for mans' sin - MAN is! And it is not by 'luck' when a person survives an accident or near tragedy - it is because it was God's will that the person lives - it wasn't their appointed time to leave this world.

God get the final say on everything that happens every where, but while we wait for the second coming the Devil is in charge. However he still has to ask for permision to do anything with us. He would have to ask God If he could put you in a car acident and if you lived god probably said sure but let them live with a couple of injuries.

I think that generally, when people say that "God helped me through this," what they mean is that they prayed, or meditated, or whatever it is that they do when appealing to a "higher power" for assistance, and that through this practice and this "communication" they were able to come to terms with their problems and eventually to overcome them. They each tend to use the specific terminology they were raised with, but that's always the gist. Often the "miraculous" nature of the cure is emphasized with reference to the apparent hopelessness of the original problem. I imagine that if you're the sole survivor of a plane crash, you have every right to feel exceptional.

This sort of thing is well enough attested as a phenomenon in human experience. So is the phenomenon of imagining that your unfortunate circumstances are God's punishment for your sins. The power/wrath of God, or of your own mind, or both, or neither? Your answer is probably only significant as a reflection of your upbringing. Clearly we all agree on many points on the phenomena themselves - we only differ on interpretation.

Yes, and then I realized that God doesn't do that. God doesn't bring misfortune. God doesn't kill, or hurt people. The Devil does. Read Job, it describes how Job, a man completely surrounded with sorrows, trusted that God was not to blame and in the end recieved so many blessings that he couldn't count or believe them. It's pretty inspiring how a man could lose so much and trust God to eventually gain so much more.

The problem with people is they think this world is about them. We are here to serve God. So if I am in a car wreck and lose my legs as long as God is glorified im ok with it. Understand God made you. Your nothing but clay.

It's the Sovereignty of God. NOTHING happens that is out of His control. Satan has NO power without God's permission. So why do bad things happen....because man chose sin. As a christian I trust in the Sovereignty of God. I know that he is in control and that everything works for good according to His purposes. So something bad might happen....like my husbands uncle died from cancer. But while he was dying he accepted Christ and as a result his wife and 4 kids accepted Christ as well. So now they will like with God in eternity. God was glorified by something we considered to be "bad". We won't ever understand why everything happens, but I do know that in the end...GOD WILL BE GLORIFIED! That is where my faith rests...in his Sovereignty!

It is only people who don't have a relationship with God who might think that way. Whether or not God allowed something to happen is not something to question, in my opinion. Faith is the substance of things unknown, and my faith is good enough for me. I know that is hard for analytical non-believers to fathom...I wish I could make it easier to understand. But bottom line I will always stand by Joshua 24:15.

I've always answered that question this way: We are as gods, and we may as well get on with it. This cuts the crap out of religious questions concerning abortion and capital punishment. It also releases us from the limiting dialectic of good versus evil. That Yin-Yang symbol can teach you a lot. Think outside The Book.
