Faith in Jesus brings our Righteousness that God requires for our salvation. However, God said that you must deny yourself and take up your cross and follow me. I know If you have real faith God will provide the works. This concept is so hard, I don't even know what I am asking you. Ok, how do I know that I am a disciple of the Lord?

How do I know I hear His voice?

"My sheep know my voice and follow me." Do you hear His voice ? It was Christ that said you must take up your cross. Christ also said that if you believe in Him that you really believe in the Father. It is faith alone that saves us, the works are not part of salvation but those without works truly don't know Him. Seek Him out alone, with no religion. Call out to Him to open your eyes and show you His truths. As He shows you the false teachings of organized denomonationalized religion you must reject their false ways and he will open your eyes widely. At that point works will become a way of life and not out of effort.

I understand your question and how difficult it is to discern but if you truly seek out God, He will call on you one day and you will know. My below website (though never finished) may help you, and you can contact me through it if you would like further discussion of this topic.I am of no religious affiliation, only a man trying to know and please God.

Read James 2:14 - 26. this will bive a better view on faith and works. Faith only is not scriptural. A good thing to do is start at matthew and read the New testement all the way through like you would a book and then do it again and agian and these things will start becoming clear to you and you will see that a lot of things man will say is wrong and not in accordance with scripture.

The first 2 principles of being a disciple are 1st Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and 2nd repentance. True repentance means being sorry, apolojising to God and any you might have offended, making reparations, and turnign away from the sin. If you have faith in Jesus, and properly repent, then you are a disciple of Jesus. Good Luck.

The scripture teaches in 1 Peter 2:2 (as new born babes DESIRE the sincere milk of the world) Look at what you asked. You desired. You desired righteous instruction and your desire is rewarded and you will grow. A disciple follows a master, your master (L-rd) is Yeshua, and you study the word of G-d that you may grow. Though you seem a bit confused, it's o.k. I seem to get where you are at. Don't get hung up on theological knots like the age old works/faith controversy. Let me shed this light on it. The scripture teaches that "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of G-d" (Romans 10:17). Well, then you will show your faith, by reading the word of G-d. Why, because you had faith, which came from reading the word of G-d. If you have faith you will do works, but works will not increase your faith. We must take up our cross (sacrifice), however our salvation isn't dependent upon this application. Because salvation is only dependent upon our faith belief and covenant with G-d who sent Jesus to die for us. The aspect of taking up our cross (sacrifice) comes into play in our relationships with others. If we find ourselfs in a difficult situation and we want it our way, then we aren't taking up our cross, but that doesn't negate our salvation. We have taken Christ from off the throne of our hearts in that instant and we have put ourself there in His place. We have become human and not spiritually minded.

This then is how Satan tries to defeat us. He tries to throw a monkeywrench into the works, by confusing us with what appears to be conflicting scriptural principles. He tempts us to do our own thing, and then if and when we succumb to temptation, He accuses us before G-d. However, Jesus stands there and defends us, saying, I paid for that at the cross. Remember that Paul told Timothy to "Study to show yourself approved, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of Truth". (2 Timothy 2:15). Psalm 119:9 says that we can only cleanse our way by applying the word to our lives and Psalm 119:11 says that if we hide His word in our heart (memorization) we will not sin against Him. I will post some links which may be of interest to you.

How do you know you're a disciple - because you know you're doing your best to follow Him, and are repenting and striving to improve in the areas that you know aren't so great at the moment.

The reason the faith vs works thing can be so confusing is because they're so incredibly linked together - almost inseparable. You're right - the more faith you have, the more desire you have to do good works, and the more you do good works, the more that feeds your faith.

part of your answer starts with some of the responses you're
getting... people will not understand. they will mock you and they will hate you when you follow CHRIST.
you can't have peace with the world when you follow the BIBLE.
when we take up our cross we identify with CHRIST and HIS
suffering and alienation from a sinful world that is in rebellion vs.
GOD.
and no one can do it in their own strength.
but with GOD all things are possible and when this passing
world is over you have everlasting life and others stand for
judgment. GOD is your answer even if persecution comes your way for awhile.
read Colossians 1:24 where GOD tells us that we "...fill up
that which is behind of the afflictions of CHRIST in my flesh for
HIS Body's sake which is the Church"
we continue CHRIST's suffering as tools HE uses to complete HIS Salvation plan until the end.
there is no greater honor and privilege a person could
experience than to be used in a similar [lesser,of course] way that JESUS himself was used by the FATHER.

Good question.

True faith also brings a change in the heart.
You do not bring forth good works in order to be saved, but because you have been saved they come forth automatically from the change that has been made in your heart.
Just as a grafted vine brings forth grapes when it is connected to a vine. It doesnt have to struggle to bring forth fruit, that is just what it does naturally.
When you die to self, He can shine through you.
There is nothing you can do to earn your salvation, it is your new heart and your new spirit that allows Him to bring good works.

The motive for everything you do should be love, hence the key:
FAITH WHICH WORKETH BY LOVE!

Well this is what I do, I try not to take every thing literally. I think most of the time that Christians try to hard to dechiper ever line from the bible and ever teaching instead of just taking the whole book as the lesson. I used to do that too but its too much to comprehend so I just get the whole picture and not worry about every detail act according to your faith and everything should be smooth sailing from there.

Why do you need words to know that? All you need to know is what is in your heart.

Do you treat mankind with respect, dignity, peace, and fellowship?
Do you always try to do what you believe to be the right thing?
Do you unselfishly give of yourself to others?

If you do these kinds of things then are you not already a disciple of the Lord?
