Is it bad to have 5 cats that are neutered/spayed? Which begs the question, how many cats are too many cats?
Here is my guide:
You might have more cats than you need if...
...You find that when you are sitting on your favorite chair or couch, the weight of cats on you/around you exceeds your own weight.
...You have had to build a separate storage shed to hold the cat litter and cat food you need.
...When people ask you how many cats you have, you find yourself giving answers like "I have two beautiful silver tabbies!" (without mentioning the three black cats and four torties you also own.)
...When you open a can of cat food, the floor shakes from the thunder of dainty cat feet.
...You sleep with the air conditioning on even in winter because otherwise the cats that sleep on your bed make you feel too warm.
...You have to pause to remember the name of the cat you're about to scream at for jumping on the counter because you have so many of them.
...You gave up upholstered furniture in favor of wrought iron.
...You find that the only friends you're asking over to your house are other people with multi-cat households.
...Your file at the vet's is one of the thickest on the shelves or in the drawers.
...You find that all the gifts that friends and family are giving you are cat-themed in some way.
...You no longer wonder if it is bad to have "X" number of cats, you just wonder how long you can dodge the zoning commission and the psychiatric evaluation people.
Is it bad to have 5 cats? Heck yes! You ought to have at least a couple more! ;-))

My mom has 3, but recently started feeding a stray female cat that has been living in the nearby woods.
"Mama cat" got pregnant and delivered a healthy litter of 5 kittens. Not long after those kittens were weaned, Mama cat got knocked up again! So now my mom has 3 cats indoors and about 10 or 11 wild cats outside that she feeds twice a day!
Back to your question......NO! 5 is not too many! My family has always had lots of cats and dogs. As long as they are healthy, happy and well cared for- what's the problem?

No! I have 4 cats. They are all spayed & stay indoors. I have several litter boxes for them, which I clean out often & I vacuum everyday. As long as you can take proper care of them & keep things clean & can give them all the attention & love they need, then 5 cats are just fine. And, of course, as long as you enjoy having 5 cats around.

They're all fixed, if they're loved and cared for, then why would you worry about it?? If you take care of them properly, then you can have as many as you want, as long as there's plenty of room for them, and the litter box don't start to stink the house up.

Its fine.
I have a formula thats a guideline, however, no more than 3 cats per 1200 sq. foot in the house.
Sometimes citys have ordinances about the number of cats you can have. You might want to check with them.

As long as you are taking good care of them and changing the litter often, there's no problem with it.

We have six cats, all neutered or spayed and had shots. They live outside in the garage, because five of them were feral (wild) and just ended up at our house.

yah that's too many. I'd think a pesron wit 5 cats is a bit too creepy and obsessed with them; not to mention the smell of cat and the excess cat hairs everywhere.

No. My old boyfriend and I had ten. We started out with four, but then we adopted a stray (or I should say, she adopted us), and she had five kittens. We couldn't bear to give the kittens away.
Now I don't know where any of them are. When I left him, he told me that his mom had taken all of the cats except her Persian and her Siamese to the pound.
I was so mad. I still am. :-(

It's fine as long as you take good care of them. It sounds like you're taking very good care of them.
However, it can be hard to find an apartment if you have more than 2 cats and are looking to rent....
