I've been told that Joseph Smith only had a 3rd grade education and still was able to create the Book Of Mormon. I've been told that this helps prove that he was inspired. Well, where's the non-lds documentation that shows he only made it through 3rd grade?

I understand that it's a cult, but I've been told this so many times. I just want to know if there is a legitimate information that supports this.

Mormonism is a cult. Look what they do in the temple for their endowments. If you're not conviced it's a cult after reading about that, you're not all that bright.

While I'm not familiar with any sources that state the limit of Joseph Smith's formal education...he wasn't ignorant of the Bible, evangelical Protestantism, and American antiquities. He had a vivid imagination and could have easily dictated the Book of Mormon just as easily as he dictated a story about a so-called man named Zelph who was a godly white Lamanite based on the finding of a simple partial skeleton.

It is not a cult and anyone stupid enough to believe this knows nothing about Mormonism, nor do they know the meaning of the word "cult."
I am mormon, and I don't have to read about the temples, I've actually BEEN there, which is more than you can say. And if you have actually been through one and you're still convinced it's a cult, then you're a bitter, biased ex-Mormon.

The argument is to point out that he wasn't educated enough to create it, and that it had to be case of divine translation.

I am LDS (I'm assuming by cult you mean someone that doesn't believe exactly like you, so I'm not going to be offended),

I can say the LDS people are famous for being a record keeping people (you should check out our genealogy libraries - they're amazing)...but if your looking for external sources for that, I guess you'd have to dig deeper in the school records of his hometown or something.

good luck.

Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) was illiterate.

Uneducated does not mean dumb.

Michael Dell(founder of Dell computers) dropped out of college (or was it high school?)

Back then a third grade education would have been fairly good.
