How do your control appetite? Stopping yourself from those nice tempting food?

Other than diet suppressant pills. What else can I do? I don't want to depend on those. I can exercise, but I can't stop myself from food!!

The other poster who said to eat more whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables, foods high in fiber, is right-on in his advice. These will make you feel fuller; they're rich in minerals and nutrients, but they have fewer calories relative to the amount of space they take up. Drinking plenty of water is also important, as is avoiding refined sugars (high-fructose corn syrup from sodas and fruit drinks is the worst).

Drinking moderate amounts of caffeine throughout the day can help, but overall, too much caffeine will be counterproductive. Caffeine is an appetite suppressant but its effects are very temporary and can often lead to more hunger when it wears off, so it is most effective to drink small amounts of caffeine (such as green tea) throughout the day. This is also the way to allow caffeine to most positively influence your mental focus, concentration, and mood. Avoid drinking large amounts of caffeeine all at once.

I've found that some herbal and non-herbal teas can suppress appetite somewhat as well. They're also a flavourful thing that you can drink that has no calories (if you drink it unsweetened, which you can learn to like), and they can be very beneficial to your health. Experiment finding herbal teas you like. I'm not talking strong medicinal things--just like Celestial Seasonings brand that you get at the supermarket.

One last piece of advice--make sure you are eating enough fat. A lot of people who are concerned with their weight do not eat enough fat, so they constantly have cravings for fatty foods. Many fatty foods are very healthy--for example, nuts, olive oil, or fish. You may want to try increasing your intake of these foods, and you may find that your cravings for food diminish overall!

I hope this helps.

I have replaced all of the foods that I loved that were bad for me with healthier options. For example.. if I think, "Wow, I'd like some honey BBQ wings from KFC" I make BBQ boneless skinless chicken breast (which I either cook in water or spray the pan with cooking spray before adding BBQ sauce). It has about 1/4 the calories and I can eat more of it without feeling guilty! I follow a diet based on calorie intake, which helps me stay on track and still eat small portions of the food I like. You don't always have to cut them completely out.. just limit them. I know that it is easier said than done, but if I can do it anyone can!

Eating whole grain foods and high fiber foods will give you the sensation of being full, those controlling your appetite. Also, before a meal, take a glass of water before you eat and also while you eat. It's not only good for you to hydrate, you'll also feel satisfied sooner.

Also, avoid foods high in sugar. Avoid foods that have high sucrose content or enriched/refined sugars. Sucrose tends to stimulate your body into wanting more of it.
