yes tomatoes should be kept out.. if you want to slow the ripeining you can toss them in there... scientific reason as to why. the sugars in the tomato convert into starch giving it a mealy texture. the same holds true for keeping potatoes out of the fridge and bananas.

Yes, it's because if you leave them out the fridge won't suck all the juices and flavor out of the tomato, and if you leave it in the refrigerator,it just turns bad and all nasty, and grow littled fluffy white stuff (otherwise known as mold). Is that a good enough reason?

Keep them out of the fridge! Refrigeration alters the texture of the tomato, making it mealy or mushy. It also degrades the taste slightly.

Do a test. Put one in the fridge and keep one on the countertop. See if the taste and texture make a difference to you.

The 4 star restaurant where I worked never chilled their tomatoes.

True, b/c they are at the peak of flavor at room temp.

But you can put themin there to slow down the ripening, or if you have too many coming ripe at the same time. It won't ruin them or anything.

Yes, that is true. (I only know that from on the Food Network.) The cold destroys the flavor.

yes because tomatoes taste better. fresher and are juicer .
being in the refrigerator they get too firm/hard.
they need natural light . they keep their color longer.
