hi im thinking of getting married again, the story is that i have too grown children in there twentys and as daft as this sounds when i go to that place in the sky one day, i want people to know that i am/ was the mother of my two children by still holding onto there surname , as well as having his too, so it would look something like,,,,, anderson-murray My partner said this is fine, if it makes me happy. All i need to know is it allowed?

yes, when you get married, you are allowed to choice one of four:
Keep your last name
Tkae his last name
Have both, any order, either hyphenated or not
Keep one as a middle name, one as a last name (This is what I did,. my maiden name is now one of my middle names)
And by the way - you BOTH have those options so if he wanted to have the same last name, you could both become anderson-murry!

Yes in the UK you can call yourself anything you like as long as it's not for trying to defraud people. When you get married, double-barrel your name. It's no longer associated with "being posh" - anyone can double-barrel their name. Your only considerations really, I think, will be whether the names sound right together, and of course your children are grown up so they won't be upset by it. Your husband won't have to double barrel his name just because you do. In my work I've seen married clients where the husband is, say, Mr Smith, and his wife is Mrs Brown-Smith.
Anything goes these days.
A word of caution though: you don't have to, but a Change of Name Deed will really help a lot to smooth things out for you. The Passport Agency, the DVLA and the bank will all ask to see this and although usually just your marriage certificate would suffice, it may be that since your name won't just be Mrs My Husband's Name, they might ask for the Change of Name Deed. This should cost around £50 plus VAT for a solicitor to do but it is dead simple to do. If you contact a law firm about this, you could try wheedling them to do it for less by asking if a trainee solicitor could do it for you. It really is that simple.

I don't know if that is possible in other countries, I live in Holland, we always keep our Surname, even when we get married. So we keep our Surname and have the married name too, it is up to us which of the two I would like to use. For mail, we put first the married name and behind that the Surname. Good luck, when you finally decide to get married, I wish all the best for you.

My mother re-maried and has two surnames. Dont think its a problem but theres no "-" between the names, dont know if that makes a diference. And if all else fails get your partners name changed to the surname you want "anderson-murray" then get married. Good luck

I've done the exact same thing as you want to by having a double barrelled name....my children's sir name first & my Husbands last......your intended can also use that name as well. I had similar reasons as you so it's not a daft thought at all, my children were a bit younger & still at school & my Daughter didn't want people thinking she came from a single parent family.....So I totally understand your reasons.
Actually you can use whatever name you wish to as long as it isn't for fraudulent reasons.
I haven't had mine signed sealed & delivered by a solicitor but you can change your name to any you wish by deed poll.

yes people do that all the time. Females sometimes want to keep that part of themselves and also use the husbands name. For instance one could be called Jane Doe-Smith OK

in the US you can do that. When you go to apply for your marriage license just write down what your new name is going to be. I just got married and I had the option to have both names. Good Luck

I use which ever name i like- the passport is the only thing that might matter. I'm miss to the gas and electric and my bank and mrs for council tax- no- it doesn't matter. I swap over when ever i like- my dad died and i want to keep his name going too. My husband's fine with it all.
