Why are you here if you believe that God is non existent? I understand evangelism and defending God...but I don't understand defending a non existent God? Are you trying to help Christians see your "truth"?

Now, if they weren't here, would you defend them to all the people who call them immoral trash? I don't think so. If they weren't here, you could say anything you wanted about them, and no one would care. Plus, it keeps things interesting, don't you think? Makes you think a little harder about things? Encourages you to have as much biblical knowledge as possible in order to defend your beliefs?

"i cant prove to you god exists, " So why do you believe in God? You must have something you consider sufficient reason to move you out of the agnostic category, I don't do absolutes (I can't even prove there will be a dawn tomorrow, but that doesn't mean I should be in practice agnostic about it) But I've looked long and hard for "the elephant in the room" which an existing deity would be (unless of the uninvolved uninterested sort Deism suggests) and see no clear sign*, which is very odd. No, that's not absolute proof, but it makes "atheist" a better approximate one-word fit for me than "agnostic" would be. *nothing that doesn't fit into other world-views at least as well, which is neutral data.

This is religion and spirituality section, not Christian pnly section. R&S involves a wide range of religions and spiritualit. I think even athiest is a form of spirituality. I am not Christian or athiest but I am pagan, Wicca is my religion and this is a place to talk about Wicca and paganism. Besides this section is a joke most of the time, have you seen WISDR or Sleestack or any of the other jokesters here?

This is not a very place for evangilism because there is no one on one personal contact. As a former Christian who has personaly studied the bible with hundreds and have Baptized dozens and helped hundreds more, I know from experience chating on a forum like this does nothing. If people want to witness they need to go out in their physical world and live a good life and be a good example and just maybe someone may ask about your faith.

Since you are only the 256th person who asks this today, I can understand how you must have missed the other similar questions.

I'm an Atheist, and I am here for many reasons.

1) I have a Christian girlfriend and I want to learn more about her religion.

2) I have lived all my life in Holland, an Atheist country. In Holland all sorts of things are allowed like gay marriage, abortion, euthanasia. I see these things as basic human rights. At the same time I see that all these things are far from basic human rights in many other countries, under the pressure of the religious voice.

3) It is a proven fact that Atheist countries like Sweden, Norway, Holland, etc, etc have better functioning human societies than a religious country like the USA. The Atheist countries have lower murder rates, up to 300% lower STD rates just to name a few.

4) In spite of the fact that again yesterday 40,000 kids died of starvation and aids, people still claim that God heals diseases. They post video's online with all sorts of 'miracle healings' and claim that as proof of the existence of God. There will be people watching that nonsense and stop their medication. There will be people watching it, stopping their medication and therefore they will die. They will die because they saw this video and based on it they will make a wrong decision. The claim "God heals", kills people. It's as simple as that.

To put it short: It's needed to educate the religious people how bad organized religion is for this planet. I want a better planet for my future children. That's why I'm here.

If enough people base their ideas about reality around something that cannot be shown to exist they put everyone in danger. For example, we are living in a time of great knowledge. If the majority embraced this knowledge and used it to their advantage just imagine how great society would become... Instead people fight against progress and against each other because they hold these irrational beliefs for no other reason than it feels good.

Wanting something to be true doesn't make it true. The evidence we have about how the world works shows us a pretty clear picture... however people would rather believe in a fairy tale and keep killing each other for their imaginary daddy in the sky. It's time for all of us to grow up and accept reality.

Well done for SUCH an original question. Only seen it about 1000 times today but anyhoo.......we are obviously not defending a non-existent God. In fact, I'm not sure what you're babbling on about with that one. Atheism is an opinion about religion and spirituality. That's why we are here. I might just make that my screen name and have done with it.

I am trying to get people to realize that it is ok to believe what you want. Don't however try to get others to change their ways. Live and let live. If you knew anything about atheists, we want people to think for themselves, and come up with their own answers. Atheists don't attack people of religioin, we attack those trying to pass laws based on religion. We defend our right not to believe. We want people to understand that even without a god, we can live productive, good, lawful, and decent lives. If anything, we just want to be left to our lives, and everyone else can live their's.

well anybody and everybody has a right to be here whether they are christian muslim hindu jewish buddhist satanist pagan or even non religious such as atheists and agnostics such as myself as everybody has a point of view that they want to share with one another and because everybody's point of view should be considered valid i mean think about it who better to answer a question about a certain religion then the person who is with that religion or nonreligion if everytbody wasn't around you would have many people answering questions about things that they don't know about or they would answer it in a biased way and nobody would learn much that way

We are here to make you understand that there is no god.

Yet you won't take that as you have it so ingrained in you rheads that there is one.

Heres how I see your belief, and refute it completely as being blinkered in the extreme.

-------

I tell you I have a 2 inch tall, living, pink elephant in my work bag.

When I open my bag there is nothing there, and as such you won't believe in it, but I do.

And the guy next to me says he has a 2 inch blue elephant in his bag, which again he can't prove to you, but believes in himself.

You still don't believe in the mini elephants, despite two of us telling you they exist.

That is a disbelief in the existance of the elephants based on lack of proof - a form of atheism.

Switch the pink elephant for your god, and the blue one for someone elses god and you have the reason I am an atheist.

No one can prove to me that your elephants exists therefore I refuse to believe in them.

I disbelieve in your god (pink elephant) and a muslims god (blue elephant), I also disbelieve in a buddhists orange elephant, the hindu green one, etc etc etc because you can't prove they exist to me.

Unfortunately you are now in a situation where you believe that only your elephant is real, and everyone else with elephants is deluded, despite the only difference in what you believe being the colour of your elephants.

I'm so glad I don't believe in tiny elephants
