Yes there are several. Androgentic Alopecia is one but there are many causing of hair loss. Medication, certain heart, high blood pressure and pain medications can cause thinning hair. Some medicated shampoos for dandruff or psoriasis are hard on hair growth. Do you tie your hair in pony or pig tails often? Do you dye, back comb or use hair blowers? All these things damage or weaken and break the hair shafts easily. There are lots of websites that give good suggestions but don't buy anything until you have talked to your doctor if the situation is really serious.

The only "diseases" I know of that causes hair loss is Alopcia and cancer, because of the treatment for the cancer. Alopecia causes ALL body hair(scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, nose, facial, underarm, chest/stomach, back pubic, buttock and the hair on legs hands and the feet) to fall out. Nearly all cases are permanent! Severe bacterial infections as well as scabies and severe cases of lice have been reported to have caused hair loss as well. Malnutrition can and has been documented to cause hair loss in people of all ages.

Its not the diseases that make you lose hair... its the chemo. Most cancer patients will lose all the hair on their bodies. This is because chemo-therepy basically goes in to kill the cancerous cells. It cannot tell apart the healthy cells and bad cells though, so it just kills everything. Your hair on your body is made of living cells so... hope this helps!

Poor nutrition and lack of water for the body can cause you to lose hair. I don't know of any diseases, but chemo can cause you to lose your hair.
