We recently gotten a 2 year old Jack Russell female from someone who had been abused. Shes okay with my wife but scared to death of me. She stays under the bed all the time and tenses up when Im around her or runs the other way so I have to walk her around the house with a leash now just so shes around me. I walk her outside and she walks fine. I also have another Jack Russell and a Minuature Pincher both females. We've had her for 2 months now and theres been little or no improvement. Ive thought about buying anxiety medicine from 1800PetMeds to see if that works. Any ideas of how I can help her along faster?

see this is the problem with buying a dog from an abusive person or a rescued animal the reason she is scared is because she probably got abused by a man I'm sure if you start approaching her gently and feeding her treats but you shouldn't do the discipline your wife should do that part cuz she will just get afraid of you and when your wife is sitting on the couch petting the pup quietly sit down and start petting the dog also

Coming from an abusive past, probably done by a man, it will take a while for this dog to learn to trust you.

2 months isn't very long, and just keep doing what you're doing, and be patient. She'll come around eventually.

I have a Westie which is also a terrier. They tend to be more feisty than other dogs especially to tall men. They feel intimidated. You need to get down at their level and DON'T reach out your hand to them. Let them come to you by feeding them, offering treats or even taking them for a walk. By doing this, they come to realize that YOU are the one that gives them what they want and eventually they'll learn that you're not going to hurt them.
Hope that helps and good luck!

Your Parson Russel needs to have positive expriences around me. Men should not approch the dog. Let the dog approch the men as they sit on the ground at the dogs level. Give the men somthing the dog loves to eat and have them hold it for the dog in their hand.
