The Add/Remove applet will NOT remove ANY security solution of Firewalls or Anti-Virus programs! You must go to the McAfee website, then click on the support option for the chat. Chat will take you to a technician whom you will request the full removal tool needed for your version. The tech will provide a link to the tool right through the chat window and then just install and run it. Now, just so you are aware and not taken by surprise, when you run this tool the program will throw a lot of folders and files to your desktop which will look rather translusant, due to them being in the hidden files and folders section of the OS, but when you reboot they will be gone.
Every Firewall and Anti-Virus program requires one of these special removal tools due to how these programs must deeply embed into the OS in order to carry out their function of protecting the OS. Sadly, many of the manufacturers simply do not let consumers know about this need and it causes instability and even crashes within the OS when a different solution is installed without having the first one fully removed. Why do they do this? Well, it is simply due to them being poor losers over consumers not choosing to use their programs. Norton/Symantic is by far the worst offender, even going to far as to give real Viruses to consumers who refuse to keep their products or refuse to purchase additional services such as their help desk. I know as I was one of their victems, just five weeks after purchaseing a Dell system which had Noton pre-installed.
So, just go to the McAfee site, then to the support section and log on to a chat session. It is free and then demand the FULL removal tool, not the partial tool. Yep, they have two as does Norton.
Good luck and have a great day!

I don't know what you've done so far... but here's what should have been done: Look at the icon on the bottom right corner of your screen (i'm assuming this McAfee also has its own firewall) turn off the firewall, and allow MS firewall to activate... next, turn off the security center. Then to go add remove programs, and select the program.... remove it... completely. if that feature is not available in the add rem programs, go to Start > Programs > your programs... see if theirs an uninstall feature built in to the program (generally, if there is, it should have been automatically accessed, from the add-rem progs). When the program has been uninstalled, shut the system down (don't restart) let is set for about 30 seconds to a minute, then turn it back on (theoretically, this allows for the RAM to fully blank out), When you restart, use windows explorer to go to the files, and delete them all manually. I use system mechanic to even wipe the registry of the programs (reg cleaner does a good job too!) I don't know what antiviral prog you're considering over McAfee, (Norton sucks just as bad) and PC Cillin (aka Inernet security 2007) is a great!!! program, but also very good/great program is AVG, it's from Germany, and it's still free to individuals (businesses must pay), you can get it from their website, do a search for Grisoft (that's the company who makes it) Hope this helps! Try re-install it! Maybe when the installation start, it will detect a previous instalation and give you the option to recover, re-install or unnistall!
