It is just some people I know ALWAYS buy from one manufacture when buying a new car. How do you know if they make the best cars IF you dont try other makes. I always used to buy vauxhalls. But now I hate them because I know you can buy better. For the same money.

It depends what car grabs my attention. I'm more of a product-focussed person, not really that brand focussed.
I don't like clothes with the brand names obvious - my T-shirts are almost all plain.

My current car is a Renault Mégane, bought new in 2003 because I love its styling, and its toys.

My previous car was a 1997 Rover 220SDi, bought because I liked the way it looked and drove, and loved the idea of such a powerful diesel engine in such a small car (this was years before the Skoda Fabia vRS or Seat Ibiza TDi 130).

There are very few brands I would avoid - but the BMW and Mercedes-Benz owner image (too snobby, pushy, inconsiderate, self-centred) would put me off buying those brands even though some of the products (BMW 120d, Merc A200CDi) appeal.

Well, my family used to always buy FORD for whatever reason. I think it was because they just felt comfortable with the salesperson they always bought from. Plus they didn't buy Japanese because we actually had a '84 Corolla which was very unsafe and the a/c had to work hard to blow semi-cool air whenever we went on trips in it.

I was the first in my family to buy a "modern" Japanese car (1995 Acura) but what convinced my family that they should buy Japanese was the 1998 Accord, which they loved. Since then we have never bought other than Japanese...well, other than the Dodge Ram pickup.

No. I buy what I like at the time. I've been involved with purchases of Mazda, Scion, and Mitsubishi for new cars.

So far, the Mitsubishi has been the best, the Mazda a close second and the Scion was suckee. The Mitsu has the best warranty too. Yay.

I've tried various makes over the years.

It's always good to try something new, as updated and better models are always arriving, as each manufacturer tries to out do each other.

I've generally stuck to Japanese makes, though, for build quality, gadgets and reliability. Toyota, Mitsubishi, Suzuki. They make European brands look second rate.

I tend to like Italian cars for some reason (not always topping reliability surveys, but they tend to have more character than a lot of other modern cars), but otherwise, I'm pretty open minded with regads to manufacutuers/brands. If it's a good car, I'll consider buying it.

We always go for Japanese cars because they cannot be beaten on reliability and they have always lived up to their reputation. Which? The consumer advice Magazine also showed them as best.
