Hi everyone. I have done this once before, but now I forget. Can someone please tell me how to speed up your computer by deleting some of the start up programs on your task bar (next to the time). I dont want to delete them completely, I just don't need them to load each time without needing them. Thanks

Assuming you're using windows xp:

click start --> run
Type msconfig --> hit enter
Go to startup --> deselect things you don't want to startup
restart computer

Go to control panel, then to start up. Here you can see what is starting. You also go to Start, run and type in msconfig. You will see if you have normal start up. This starts lots of programs that are easily started by clicking on the program or the short cut icon. There is no need for a lot of this stuff to be running. Good luck and be careful when deleting things. If you don't know what something is, don't delete it.

Add this to your favorites, it is some of the processes you see in your task manager. Push Ctrl, Alt & Delete at the same time, only once or it might shut the computer down. Anyway it will tell you what the different processos are and if they are important or necessary. When you shut one down, you should write it down so if the computer starts acting wierd just find the add a task and put it back. It has to be typed in exactly the same. If you can't find one taht is in the task bar just type it exactly like it is in the Yahoo search bar, you'll be able to find some kind of info on it.

1. Just click on the start button and navigate to the programs in the start up folder. right click the files and select delete. this will get quite a few.
2. click start and run. type msconfig. go to the start up tab and uncheck which ever files you do not want to load (actually you could do this step for #1 also).

If this is what I think your asking.

Right click on "Start"
Left on "Properties"
Left on "Customize"
Left on "start menu" for all users
Left on Programs
I would add a folder that says "moved" or something
Left of "startup"
drag the programs that you do not want to load into your newly created folder, this way you can stick them back if you want them to load.

The other type has to do with your ini file but I don't think you should mess with that.

Hope this helps
