i've given up smoking now but still think its ridiculous to ban it in pubs. I can understand restuarants thats fine but pubs is not fair. i dont see the problem in all pubs having no smoking sections but to ban it outright im sorry but the pub is where traditionally people go to have a drink and a cigarette and socialise with friends. i think pubs might lose alot of business. sorry to sound harsh but people enjoy a cigarette whether non smokers like it or not and its not fair to stop them doing that. Its their choice to smoke and no one elses!
and omg since wen did the word *** or cigarette become a swear word lol.

i am from Scotland where this has been law since 26/03/06 and many people here were also dreading its introduction with scare stories of pubs going out of business etc.
in reality it has been a resounding success and all bars and the likes have provided outdoor areas for smokers to go.
despite concerns that smokers would attempt to defy the ban this has not materialised and now that it has bedded in everyone is a winner. smokers can still smoke albeit outside and non smokers are able to enjoy a smoke free atmosphere
on a lighter note one unexpected effect is that many nightclubs have had to start pumping air fresheners through the air con as the strong smell of sweat is no longer masked by the smell of smoke!!!!

Don't know about Wales, but I think the ban is wrong for pubs! If a man can't have a pint and a smoke in a pub where the fcuk are we going? Next thing we know nanny will close the pubs as well. And the sale of alcohol. I'm not allowed to smoke anymore, but I feel like starting again just to make a point!

Im in scotland and we have had the ban for almost a year (im a smoker).
Its not as bad as you may think because when you go out anywhere there is no-one else smoking so you dont think about it so much and theres always the option of standing outside to smoke (which I havent done yet).
Its amazing how quickly you adapt.

I'm looking forward to it. Lets hope it helps me to give up.Couple of years back i manage to stay "clean" for 3 yrs and then met smoking friends and been on it since.
Don't have the will power no more. But the idea of nice smelling clothes, easier breathing and some saved money is really tempting.
They should ban it in pubs which serve food but still leave some pub where people can go and have a smoke. Not everybody can give it up and it is not fair to leave them to go without.
Well, its gonna be definitely interesting.

26th of March, 2006 . . .
Public smoking was banned in Scotland . . .
Good.
I am a smoker. In Scotland.
It's annoying for the best part of a day. Then you get used to it,unless you're one of those self-righteous smokers.
And hanging ain't so bad. It's an open air affair and they've GOT TO grant you a last ciggy.

Yes, I'm looking forward to the ban because I'm going to use it as an excuse to stop smoking. Can you imagine the financial crisis that the UK would be in if all smokers quit on day one of the new law?
No?, instantly bankrupt UK. Food for thought indeed the next time that the anti-smoking lobby start giving you ear ache.
Any cynics out there that don't believe the above facts, don't take my word for it, stop being self righteous and check for yourself.

Am from Scotland and we have had the smoking ban for nearly a year. i am a smoker also. its not to bad to be honest, the only thing ppl need to be concerned about is,,, if you live near a bar or club, because when all the drunks go outside for their smokes the noise is unbelievable. especially in the summer, try not worry to much. you just wont smoke as much as you normally do when you go out.

its not fare how smokers are picked on if you smoke thats up to you there ought to be a room in pubs smokers can use and then if you dont want to breathe in *** smoke you dont have to
but in the end if you want a *** with a beer you should be able to do so and not be stopped by some do gooder that tells you whats good and whats bad for you i think it should be your choice.
