No, of course it is not cruel to give a cat a bath. I give my cats a bath, but the weird thing is one of them loves water. Anyways if it stinks I don't think you really want a stinky cat walking around so it is probably a good thing that you give it a bath. Have fun giving your cats baths! Hope I helped.

No, it's not cruel. Cats are usually clean, but they might need a bath for one reason or another. I have bathed nearly every cat I have ever had (about 6 cats over 25 years or so).
There was only one cat I did not ever bathe because I knew there was no way I would get by with it with him. In fact, I signed a permission sheet for the vet to sedate him, if needed, when I took him to be bathed and dipped one time. The assistants' were all skeptical about him needing to be sedated, but I knew my cat. Sure enough, when went to pick him up that afternoon, they sheepishly told me that he was still sleepy...they had to sedate him...:). I knew my cat!
Be aware that most all cats do not "prefer" a "human" bath and most likely will react, but if you hold your cat around it's neck without choking it, of course, you can probably use your other hand to do the scrubbing. Fill a pitcher or two with fresh water for rinsing ahead of time and have all your other supplies and towels ready and close at hand. I recommend the bathtub because you can close the bathroom door and confine the area in case the cat gets away. Yes, I have had a couple of them get away before, so take the rugs out so the floor will be easier to mop up if that happens. I've heard of people getting in the tub with the cat, for better control, but do whatever is easiest for you.
I have one very large, strong cat that takes 2 of us to bathe. I hold him around the neck with both hands while someone else does the bathing part. He's too strong for the one hand around the neck procedure.
For drying, we use 4-5 old towels, one after the other to soak up as much water out of the cat's furr as possible. When you get the cat dried as much as possible, let it go and it will find a cozy spot to groom and take care of the rest of it. You can try a blow drier to help, but most cats freak out over the noise and the air. Hope this helps!

No its not cruel. Don't get me wrong, it is not their favorite thing. I have 3 cats and I bathe all of them. Two of the cats I bathe about every 2 months. It really helps in the winter with dry skin. The other cat gets a bath about twice a month. She is a bigger cat and she can not clean herself properly.

Absolutly not. I am a dog groomer and bath cats atleast once a day. They might not enjoy it but it is in no way cruel. I don't recomend doing it alot. Maybe once every 6 months for short hairs and 4 times a year for long hairs. My advice is to take her to a groomers, it will only cost 15-20 dollars and they have equipment that makes it less tramatic. Also if she is greasy it may be her diet, try switching to a brand with a low fat content. Also it may be an ear infection, have her checked by your vet to rule out health issues.

no its not cruel - however it is not wise for you or your cat to do it very often - as you will probably look like you have been in a fight with a wild animal afterwards and the cat loses the special oils from its fur if you wash it too often. A couple of baths a year shouldn't do either of you any harm. Although remember that kitty probably won't thank you for it afterwards

Of course it's not cruel. Might I suggest taking your cat to a professional groomer or a vet that offers grooming? Even though cats clean themselves, they will still occasionally need some additional washing. I take my cats to my vet, and they will bathe them, give them a pill to kill any fleas they may have, and trim their claws. Afterward, they have a blow drying system. It does not take long, and it is rather inexpensive. They also have special equipment for the whole process, like a mesh net-type thing that holds the cat. It's well worth the investment to save yourself from the stress of doing it yourself.

The cat will hate it but it will not harm him. It may also help you if you have any allergies. Just use warm water, make sure to rinse him well, and most of all keep him inside for a good long time after the bath. Even though he may feel dry, the undercoat may still be damp and if its cold outside........
Oh, and wear some very heavy gloves so as not to get clawed too bad.

You need to figure out what is causing it to stink. That's not normal and neither is bathing a cat. Cats are extremely clean animals and if it is not cleaning itself, there is something wrong. It won't hurt them but it sure is an unpleasant experience for you both. You might try to wipe it down with a wet facecloth instead of trying to submerge it in a bath.

I don't think it's cruel. However, I do think it's odd that your cat stinks. I've had many cats and if any of them were to stink, I would suspect a health condition, and would take the cat to the vet. Mine have all bathed themselves just fine. I've never had to bathe one except for very occasionally wiping an extraordinarily dirty cat with a damp washcloth. ...
I certainly admire the bravery of the people who wrote to say they take their cat in the tub with them. I never would want to do that....!

Theres nothin wrong with giving your cats a bath every-now-&-then. I give all 3 of my cats a bath about every 2 months. After a while they get used to it. I just talk to them, while i'm givin them their bath and let them know that everthings all right and that the water isn't gonna hurt them. Now my cats have gottin so used to it that 1 of them gets mad at me if i take a shower and he's not in there. So its not cruel at all to bath your cats. At first they may be a little mad at you, but they'll get over it soon.
