I heard that some big screen tvs are being equipted with something to make them work right because normal tvs wont work without this in the near future does anyone know what this is called

I think you mean a hd tuner. or atsc tuner. thats just for aver the air or channels you get with an antenna. you dont have to worry about that. to you plasma question #1 is definately pioneer. they have the best plasmas/ then panasonic. they are also my favorite, then samsung but only for their picture quality. hope i helped
