I think it became it long ago. By now all business deals are long signed and we are at the receiving end of a very consumerist mentality in a country that tries to be socialist while forcing on its inhabitants a money-drives-all mentality. Why close post offices in small towns? Why create the silly round-about ways for being refered to a hospital by your own GP? it's all a question of the gov't trying to find new ways to be richer and more "equal" to its imperialistic Master Mind on the other side of the ocean. Sad.

We have been Americanised for a while... the start of that was McDonalds. Then the constant flow of American TV shows and as you said, malls like the Trafford Centre. It's become more material here - the friendly local butchers and green grocers are dwindling with changing life styles.
Currently I think we have a weak PM who is more eager to please Bush than our country which he is 'supposed' to be serving. I have said this before... we may as well be the 51st state. It isn't just America. We are starting to look like the joke country of Europe too.

I think it would be wrong to say that England is becoming America's footstool. England bends over for the privilege of being America's footstool, and has been doing for some time. If England is really lucky it gets to be America's attack dog as well as its foot lackey. Top class.

I know what you mean. I went to the shops to get some trousers for work and I was directed to the "pants" section. Pants!!! They are what you wear under your trousers.
No problem with American's calling them that - but what do we call pants now?

I agree - Britain IS becoming more Americanised. Wait a while, & we'll have skyscrapers, too. (We already seem to have American weather - tornado-type winds & torrential rain - so we should just go the whole hog!!!).

john bull has been uncle sam's comfy footstool since 1813 - when the brits were whipped at new orleans, putting an end to their pesky empire hopes in north america.
