I have a good driving record, but my husband is a HORRIBLE driver. He gets 2 or 3 speeding tickets a year. We have been dropped by our insurance company and need new insurance. Any advice on what company or what would be the best thing to do in this situation? We have excellent credit, etc. so the only problem is his driving record.

Is it possible to get separate policies? Your husband should know how to get his tickets reduced to a non-speeding violation. Next time ask around there are attorneys who can pull this off easily. Give your attorney the summons. He will then consult the District Attorney where the violation was committed. He will bargain with the officer and I've always been able to slip away with a seat-belt infraction, stop sign, stop light, or anything but a speeding ticket. I m guessing your both young people. You will grow out of it or you'll walk just as I did 40 yrs. ago. At that time everything was 50 mph. in NYS. Cars are so quiet today it's easy to drift off and let her roll to much. He needs to be aware when he drives think defensively remember where they sit. Get a top quality radar detector. When you both go on trips, you do some of the driving. After 37 years I've learned to keep mouth shut when my wife drives. Recently she went on strike and did oll the driving. She feared for her life because I was drafting a guy on RT. 80 entering NY,City The speed limit is 65--- traffic was moving at 80. If you don't draft people cut across lanes and take away your respectable driving space.

I fear you may have to obtain insurance through your state's assigned risk pool. See the second link for information regarding your particular state. What the insurance firms are concerned about is your husband's driving not your credit. Taking a driver's education class will probably not help. Maybe when he finds out how much this is going to cost, he will let up on the pedal. You could buy him a bicycle.

You can get a policy that EXCLUDES your husband from your automobile. Be warned: if you do this and he drives and crashes your car your insurance will not pay one thin dime to you or the 40 injured kids involved in the school bus he crashed into.
