What do they want you to say in return? I feel stupid saying:
1. Thanks <-- because that's all I can really say!
And things like, "I know," or "No I'm not" will seem conceited or annoyingly insecure. Do guys even WANT you to say anything back?

The best reply when you receive a compliment is just thank you. Anything else such as denying it looks like you are trying to get even more compliments which makes you appear needy. If you say I know it makes you seem arrogant and will scare most guys to death.

yeah, they want you to say "you're not bad yourself" or some bs like that so they know if they have a chance of jumping your bones or not
try saying, "oh yeah, why you say that?" or "you think so" or whatever, it's all a game, what you say back should depend on if you like the guy or not

What's wrong with just simply saying a good old fashioned "Thank You"! Since when has having good manners become so corny?

i know how you feel, i never know what to say when a stranger says that, so i usually end up blushing and saying thank you. But when my boyfriend says it, like every day. i always say ty. and i actually still blush. :p

just be like "haha thankss" if they say hott and everything is would be a simple "thank you" with a smile, anything more than that would eaither make yourself sound overconfident or not confident.

saying "i know" is not conceited its an acknowledgement only --- you must think you look etc everyone does
accept in good grace --- perhaps blush and look away smiling

Just say thanks and leave it at that. Unless of course you find them hot too, then compliment them back...maybe a hook up in the works.

you should accept the compliment gracefully and maybe compliment something about him dont be corny
