Going to Australia at Easter and flying with Singapore airlines and just worried it will be like a long haul Thomas Cook flight, squashed in.

Aflumpire I am not paranoid, I have done long haul on Thomas Cook, you are so squashed in you have no room to move your arms let alone your legs, squashed in like sardines springs to mind and the best way I could describe it.

I have travelled between Australia and the UK at least 15 times on about 6 or 7 different airlines. That's a pretty good test, as flights don't come much longer. I fly Singapore, and cannot see myself leaving them. Their pitch (leg room) is the best I know of in economy, the service is excellent, the food is good, and the facilities ahead of the competition. They had screens in the back of the seat in front before anyone else, and then the video was play on demand with Singapore before anyone else. I would recommend them, and of my friends who travel a lot the only ones who DON'T say Singapore is the best are the ones who have flown Emirates - I haven't flown them but they are meant to be good too.
The airlines Singapore are much better than from my experience:
Qantas
BA
JAL
Garuda
Malaysian
Thai
... and a few smaller ones.
Oh yeah, and when you book online you can allocate your own seat and choose your meal! And that's economy!

Singapore Airlines are pretty good. the planes always seemed clean, the staff were always very polite and attentive, and also the seating was okay. Economy is always going to be a squeeze no matter who you fly with, and at 6 foot tall, i though Singapore were still small considering the money i paid for the tickerts, but thats the proble with cattle class travel i guess. Try and get a free upgrade if you can by being nice to the ground staff at check in if you there early enough, and also by dressing smart. Has worked for me before, and it made the trip so much better.

Singapore Airlines definitely have a better seat pitch (distance between seats) than most airlines. On long haul their service is extremely good and they seem to keep their best staff for the long haul routes.

Singapore Airlines is one of the best I've been on, and I've been on quite a few. I certainly have never felt like a sardine

Singapore Airlines is a great airline. Great food, great service, and you can choose your own shows or video games on personal TV's. Not too cramped either.
