We have an 8 year old pomeranian. We've had him since he was a puppy. Over the last couple years he's developed bad habits and a slight sickness which is just coughing it seems. His bad habits mainly are marking territory.
We don't want to put him in a shelter at all. He may not get along with all other dogs. But he loves kids and he's such a boy himself and loves to play ball and stuff.
We are so afraid that a shelter will not look into what would be the best home for him and I'm afraid of posting anything on the internet to find a potential family for him.
I hate the idea of giving him away cuz I'm grown attatched. I seem to be the only one who cares about him anymore.
Do you have any suggestions on what I could do to make sure he gets a good home?

Like I said....I hate it. It's not my choice. If I had my own place I would take him but I don't see that happening for awhile.
The only person that is home during the day time is my grandmother who is 87 years old. She can't take care of him that well.

And we have gotten him medicine for the cough. I just mentioned that because I'm afraid that some people wouldn't take care of medicine for him.

Why are you getting rid of him, instead of working with him to prevent these bad habits, and get him medical attention for the cough?
If you need to re-home him, post an ad on Petfinder.com and on Craigslist.org.

Meet and talk with the potential adopters, to see if they're someone who you can trust with your dog.

You may need to consider getting a professional dog trainer to work with your family. They are there to solve these problems. USE one!!

This is such a small investment to make in your beloved. He has been with you for so long now, even if he is a bit of a pain. You have no idea how much it's going to hurt to be without him.
Especially thinking of him missing you as much as you are missing him...You are going to throw your whole household into a tizzy.

Try really hard to work it out!! Then if need be let the local vet and trainer help you find him a good loving home.

Your 87 yr old Grammy needs him to take care of!! What else has she got to do all day? Contemplate her fate??

It's only a Pomeranian, not a lab!!

You will regret this move, I'm sorry but that is what I think.

Here! Try this! Call a Pomer. rescue. I'm sorry I should have thought of that first.

Two years ago. One of my dogs was driving me insane!! He kept escaping it was really dangerous out in the country with coyotes. I just knew he was going to get eaten by a coyo.
I called the rescue, ready to find him a better home.. They were patient and kind is an acidic way..

When they were finished with me..I knew for sure that I was never getting rid of my dog. Just a few weeks later we were all laughing about it.

This is the same old story I've seen over and over in animal rescue. Things get a little tough, and you're giving away the family pet. People never fail to amaze me. Dogs are a 10-15 year committment. I still don't know why you want to give away the dog, I can't see any really good reason. Shame on you.

Talk to a trainer. Get some help. Don't get rid of this dog. It's going to be hard to find a home for a dog with a pre-existing medical condition.

I can't believe you would consider this, but if you feel you have to, theres a website for the rescue organization.

Have him checked out by a vet to see if there are any physical problems. If no physical problems, find out what you can do to correct the bad habits. Unfortunately, there are few people willing to accept an 8 year old dog. His chances of getting adopted with the habits he has are very slim. Best you try and get the habits corrected and make him happy by keeping him.

So he gets sick and you're going to get rid of him? That's loyalty for you.
