-Wrap a small gift and have them play "hot potato" with it. Whoever is left at the end gets the gift.
-Fill a jar with candy and have each child guess how many pieces of candy are in it. Whoever's the closest gets to keep the jar of candy.
-Have them go on a treasure hunt
-Get a face painting kit and decorate your guests :-)
-Have the kids decorate their own cupcakes or cookies

There is a great book - Kids Concoctions - that has a ton of different crafts and activities in it that are really inexpensive. Kids also seem to reallly like theme parties. Think about her hobbies, favorite books, favorite TV characters and try to tie activities, games and decorations into that theme.
For example, if she's really into sponge bob, you might do "pin the nose on spongebob" instead of pin the tail on the donkey. Or if she's really into Barbie, kids could make their own "Barbie room" using shoe boxes and construction paper.
You might also look at "The Tightwad Gazette" for inexpensive ideas. I think there are three volumes of the book at this point.
Have fun!

Pinatas are fun for this age group. How about pin the tail on the donkey?
You could make it a themed party, i.e. a barbie party, or a princess party, or a dress-up party, etc.

How about a "cocktail party"? Have them "dress up" as though they were attending a fancy soiree (Eight year old style, of course). As favors, give them inexpensive feather boas and/or mardi gras beads.
Offer "cocktails" in fancy glasses with all kinds of garnish & umbrellas. For food, serve appetizers on cocktail napkins. I bet a group of 8 year olds would get a kick out this (and you can call it something besides a cocktail party of course)!

It wasn't too high priced, merely stuff i ought to %. up on the dollar shop. That way that they had something to do. in case you have a soccer or something on the homestead, they could go outdoors to play. do no longer concern approximately all of us else having a good time. this is for you and your son.

I did a "bob for apples" game at my nieces 8th birthday this year, it was totally a hit! They had so much fun. I didn't have a big tub either, so I just used a big cooler (the kind for camping), worked great!
