why do most Americans consider people from Spain Hispanics, don't they realize they're European?

i'm an american thats traveled to europe and realized that over there no one considers spanish people hispanics or even similar to them (the only reason they speak the same language is because at one time spain conquered south america, the same reason that in the USA people speak english due to the fact that the english conquered)........i just wanted to know because while in europe i realized that mostly people in the USA make that mistake... thanks

latino and latin are two diferent words.. latin: a person from countries where languages developed from latin, such as spain, portugal, italy or french are spoken..... in south america spainsh wasn't developed it was taught

Hispanic means Spanish-speaking so Spaniards ARE hispanic. I never met a Spaniard who was adverse to being called hispanic.

Well, I'm from USA and I don't consider them the same. They are all Latinos. But that's the only way I think you can generalize their race.
