Atheists, freethinkers, and secular humanists focus on the power of human beings to influence our world.

To us, man is neither inherrently sinful nor good. We're neutral beings, but when we grow up being loved, we love our families in return. And we also can expand our love to our communities and our planet.

What's more, out of concern for making things better, we take action to make things a better place. (Witness the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.)

So what are you seeing that makes you optimistic that we will continue to find solutions for the problems that arise in the world? What are you doing to help solve a real world problem?

My students make me optimistic about the future of the world. They have good brains and good hearts. What is more, they put their hands to making the world better instead of complaining overly much about what is wrong.

What am I doing to help solve a real world problem? It is a small thing... I teach. I volunteer. I, like my students, make a difference in someone's life everyday.

What in the world? Conservatives have proven to give more to the very causes you mention, by the way. So while it is great to better your world, you don't do more than the theists(often conservatives) do. Perhaps that is not your point though. The "world problems", are in the eye of the beholder, to be sure, correct? So we could have very differing views on what it means to make the world a better place. I am glad you prefer this, over being evil, though. You could just as easily prefer to have a liking for evil, and I am glad you don't! Thanks for giving back to humanity.
