You don't necessarily have to be a teenager to have spots, they ca be caused by a number of things including poor diet, excess alcohol, stress, hormones, of simply using the wrong facial formula...
I don't know much about you, so I think the best thing to do is to look at your life style and see if any of these things might be the cause, and then eliminate it, and see if that works. Just try and eat healthier, stay hydrated (with WATER), and see how you go. It might take a few weeks to notice, but if that doesn't work, go back to the doctor, there's a lot they can do for you.
Don't be surprised if they want to do a full assessment of your health as spots can be a sign of an underlying pathology.
My (ex) boyfriend had a course of ro-accutane for very severe acne which cleared it up for him. Don't know if that was permanent, because he's my ex, hah! but is is supposed to be.
I don't know what gender you are, sorry! But females can also have a certain contraceptive which clears up acne.
In my case, I just figured that I don't get spots on the rest of my body, so if I treat my face the same as that, it might work. My regime involves cleansing my face with the same shower gel as my body, good diet, and using TCP on any spots which do appear.
I swear, TCP is an absolute miracle!
And don't pick!
Hope that helps, good luck x

I'm 35 and have exactly the same problem. I was really bad in my twenties and went on a course of roaccutane which worked wonders. I was clear for a couple of years and then they started creeping back. Not as bad, but flair up once a month. At the moment I use Witch exfoliating facial wash and that seems to help. Sod all gets rid of them altogether, though. Hate it.

Have you seen your doctor or a skin doctor, you ddin't say on the body or face but a skin doctor will help. I have psoriasis and getting out in the sun helps dove soap not ivory that's the worst the skin doctor said and you can use that all over even your face. You can go to a health store and get some natural stuff for skin problems .

Unlikely to be the answer you want, but you should see your doctor. If over the counter treatments arent working, your doc might be able to suggest some alternatives.
Aside from medication, make sure you are drinking PLENTY of water, so your skin isnt expelling all the toxins in your body, and eat plenty of fresh fruit & veg!

You dont say if you are male or female. I still have spots, and having spoken to my doctor it is still due to hormones. I think it is worth talking to your doctor, they can find the cause not just waste money on trying cures.

Try eating healthily & use some facial cream or spot cream/gel. You could be stressed, in which case, find a quiet place to relax.
