Where does the tabby breed for cats originate from? My boyfriend seems to think it's Germany. And I know the name "tabby" is derived from Baghdad. So, where are the cats from?

Hi there...the name Tabby (ATABI) originated from a type of silk manufactured in the Attabiah region of Baghdad: http://www.penmarric.ns.ca/Pedigree/catbreeds/tabbycat.htm

The tabby cat is believed to be the descendant of the African Wild Cat and the pattern later emerged from various regions of Europe (Greece, Italy) from traders. Each region contributed to the various patterns of the tabby cat, however no one region can be identified to the origination of the tabby.
