We have the Onion Blossom Maker, and a booklet. There are two many steps for preparing the onion itself, so I'll just give you some of the dips (Google: onion blossom - many links there.)...

"Creamy Salsa Dip"
1/2 cup bottled buttermilk dressing or ranch dressing
1/2 cup mild salsa mix
Combine in blender and blend 5-10 seconds until smooth. Refrigerate, tightly covered, to use in 2 weeks.

"Mayonnaise Dip"
2 cup mayonnaise
2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup chili sauce
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients. Slowly warm over low heat, stirring with a whisk. Creates enough sauce for 6 onions.

"Extra Hot & Spicy Dip"
1/2 cup Catalina dressing
1/4 cup hot salsa
Combine in blender and blend 5-10 seconds until smooth. Refrigerate, tightly covered, to use in 2 weeks.

"Blue Cheese Dip"
1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
8 oz. bottle ranch or buttermilk dressing
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
2 tbsp. mayonnaise
Stir all ingredients with fork. Refrigerate, tightly covered, to use in 2 weeks.

"Chunky Dip"
1/2 cup mild salsa
1/3 cup Thousand Island dressing
2 tbsp. sweet pickle relish with juice
Dash Tabasco
Stir all ingredients with a fork. Refrigerate, tightly covered, to use in 2 weeks.

"Outback-Style Dip"
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tsp. catsup
2 tsp. horseradish (cream-style)
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. dried oregano
Dash ground black pepper
Dash cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients in small bowl. Keep tightly covered in refrigerator to use in 2 weeks.

I'd suggest checking out copykat.com, they have all types of recipes from restaurants. I imagine that they have the recipe from a few places for the blooming onion...

Vegetable oil, for frying
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 packs ranch buttermilk salad dressing mix
4 large Vidalia onions
2 boxes tempura batter mix
2 cups soda water, chilled
Spicy Mayo Dip:
2 cups low-fat mayonnaise
1 pack sun-dried tomato pesto sauce mix
4 tablespoons ketchup
Hot pepper sauce (recommended: Tabasco)

Heat oil to 375 degrees F in a deep-fryer or a large, heavy Dutch oven (oil should come no more than halfway up the sides of the pan).
Combine flour and ranch dressing mix in a shallow bowl. Set aside.

Cut about 1/2 inch off the tops of the onions and peel them. Cut 12 vertical slices until you almost reach the bottom of the onion (do not cut all the way through). Remove the center of each onion. Don't throw away!

In a second bowl, mix tempura batter with chilled soda water. Don't over-stir; batter should be slightly lumpy. Dredge each onion in seasoned flour, shaking to remove excess flour. Dip in tempura batter and make sure to spread "petals" apart to get an even coating of batter.

Carefully place 1 onion in fryer. Fry for about 2 to 3 minutes or until golden. Remove and carefully ensure that petals are separating, using a utensil to help spread them if necessary. Recoat onion with batter and return to oil for about another 5 minutes. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining onions.
Serve hot.

To make the dip, mix all ingredients in a bowl, adding hot sauce to taste. Serve with onion blooms.

I know that they have packets in your produce section of the grocery store for the batter. I would also make sure that you have a large deep fryer for a large vidalia onion.
