I suffer from depression and have had many a restless night. I have found that routine is helpful. For instance, have a bath, sit relaxed with a warm drink, read a few pages from a book put on a quiet CD and sit listening with the light out. Might take you a while to find what works for you, but it has started working for me. :)

Tips for Better Sleep
Follow a regular sleep schedule. It is helpful to go to sleep and wake up at the same times as much as possible, even on weekends.
Exercise at a regular time each day, at least 3 hours before bedtime.
Get some natural, outdoor light each day.
Avoid caffeine late in the day.
Don't drink alcohol to help you sleep.
Avoid smoking.
Create a safe and comfortable place to sleep (quiet, dark, and well ventilated).
Develop a nighttime routine that helps you slow down and relax.
If you're having trouble falling asleep after about 15 minutes, get up, do a quiet activity, and return to bed when you are sleepy.

Lettuce contains a natural drug that helps you sleep. They even use it in some sleeping tablets so a salad sandwich or just some lettuce should help you sleep. Some people suggest Hot milk but exercise is the best thing so if it is safe have a walk (maybe walk the dog) that will also help. The other thing is maybe you are worrying about something and that can stop you sleeping try to relax and turn of this may also help.

Sleeping tablets from the doctors are not always addictive,
I'm the same, I can never sleep at night,
I was wondering if you live in the UK,
As the recent weather is keeping me awake, I feel really unerved with it.
Hot milk or chocolate can help too,I always give it to my daughters to send them to sleep.
Failing that try Nytol, it's great stuff

Hi. try to avoid drinks like tea and coffee up to 5 hours before you go to bed. This may help. Also try a hot milky drink like holicks . Nytol will also work (for a short time) BUT it will hang on you the next day. Good luck

Absolutely! Melatonin is a godsend that you can buy at your local pharmacy. Take one 3 mg pill about a half hour to an hour before bed. Will help you oodles!!!! My boyfriend, who works the graveyard shift therefore has to sleep during the day, and I both use it religiously!

Lavender
Put a few drop of lavender oil on your pillow or a hankie, burn some lavender oil in an oil burner 20 minutes before going to bed and/or have a nice hot (not too hot) bath before going to bed with a couple of drops of lavender in. The lavender will help quieten the mind and relax your body.

Yoga, stretching, relaxation techniques before going to bed always help.
Don't exercise before going to bed as this keeps you awake.
For me, I'm sound asleep as soon as I get comfortable on the couch and stay very warm with 2 blankets.
It also might be that you have a lot on your mind. Talk to a friend about what might be bothering you. It truly helps a lot!

Tesco's own brand called "sleeping aid" which is found on the shelves normally with Nytol, Kalms, medication etc is fantastic. They'res also a natural remedy called "rescue remedy" by bachs which i found in a health food shop, link below shows the benefits of this etc.

I am currently in your position... over the counter stuff isn't working for me.. I mean you can try it if you want? nyquil, sleeping pills, benedryl knocks you out as well... other things that used to help me in the passed were warm glass of milk.. i used to listen to death cab for cutie transadentaldlfkja whatever that cd was called because it was really really soft and used to always put me to sleep. maybe purchase a sleeping mask? count? say prayers? read a text book. Tahts all i can really think of. most of those don't work for me anymore but i hope they work for you? find a soft cd you like and listen to it. don't eat after 7 or drink.. maybe work out around 4 or somethign to tire yourself out?
