like most drugs, it depends on the individual person and finding what's right for you. The first kind I tried made me sick all the time so I had to give them up. Then I went onto Prozac and after the initial settling in period they hav worked wonders for me with no effect no my weight at all. I'm afraid trial and error with you GP is your best bet! Good luck.

A lot of them can cause weight gain, but Lexapro is one that has less of a tendency to do that. Wellbutrin also has an energizing effect, and I lost weight while on that because I had much more energy and moved around a lot more. Ultimately, though, Lexapro has been the best antidepressant, all around, that I've ever used. (I have bipolar disorder and have had to try many different ADs.) I had very little side effects with it, and I didn't feel as if I were on an antidepressant (didn't feel drugged); just felt "normal."
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Antidepressants change your appetite and thats what makes you lose or gain weight. It's the same for all antidepressants, but the weight issue is different for everyone. Usually the side effects of antidepressants are short lived anyway, so if your appetite does change it shouldn't be for long.

It totally depends on which ones you use.
Some actually decrease the appetite like Prozac and some are actually used as appetite stimulants like Remeron.
If you need an antidepressant talk to your doctor about your concerns over weight gain or loss. Even in the same class, different medications can have different effects on appetite and weight. Your doctor can help you find the right one.

You can either gain or lose. I gained. But it is worth it cause I feel so much better. If you really, truely need the meds, you will learn to live with the extra weight.

It really depends on the drug and the person. On Prozac I gained weight, on Wellbutrin I wanted to kill people (forget about food!) and on Celexa I lost weight. Everyone is different.
