Does anyone keep a journal? I was thinking about writing in a journal because sometimes I get depressed, and I thought it would be good to write down some things to get them out. What do people write about in thier journals? Does it help to write it down?

Yes I do....Yes it does. I was having a tough time a few years ago and my doctor recommended writing in a journal. He also said that if I were having issues with someone I should write a letter to them even though I should not give them the letter. This has kept me off medication and sane for the last couple of years! It works and it is kind of fun to go back and read the drama that I went through before. I write about anything and everything that gets my attention day by day. Try to write the good and bad feelings. People tend to just write about the negatives in their lives. Good luck.

It's not easy to keep a journal. I've always written in journals, but never kept one. Some people write about dreams, others about experiences, others about feelings or maybe about relationships; some people make lists (best songs at the moment, earliest memories, etc).

If you tend to get depressed, a journal could be helpful over time to figure out if there are any triggers or cylcles.

I would say try to commit to writing once per week. That may not seem like a lot, but believe me, it's not easy to keep that commitment.

I can't remember the name of the book, but I checked one out from the library, published in the 70's which included sections of journals of various women, some famous, some not famous. It was interesting.

I keep a journal right now. Writting in journals can be extremely helpful when you are or are not depressed. Journaling on a constant basis can help you idenify what is making you depressed. If you are in therapy journaling can help you reflect on a session and prepare for the next.

I completly recommend keeping a journal. In mine I not only record daily activities, but thoughts, feelings, and poetry that comes to mind. I also keep track of dreams that I am having and what is going on in therapy sessions.

Journals are aweeesome. I used to write in one, but i dont have time anymore.

But journals are personal, its not like someone will read yours. So write whatever you want. I used to write poems, talk about my day, and draw.

Yes it helps to get things out through writting

It does help to write things down because your journal can serve as a back up plan if you need reference for something that happen to you in the past...Also it gives you a chance to improve your writing skills...
