Just tell the guy to back off unless he's the suicidal type, then ignore him. He'll EVENTUALLY get the clue.
You're going to hurt feelings either way, so it really depends on how he's treated you:
Stalk you: tell him to back off
Ignorant nice guy: tell him nicely
Emo:ignore him
