I never did. I always thought of it as bad manners, but still I see many people doing that, men and women, in public transport or public buildings for example.
What do you think of it?
Or do you even do it yourself?

It's absolutely revolting, and unquestionably a violation of proper etiquiette.

One should keep ALL of one's personal grooming to private space. Period. It is not something that one should EVER do in a public place.

Miss Manners will agree, if you choose to check.

For anyone who has questions about why...imagine this: I'm sitting on the bus, on the way to work with the cup of coffee I got from Starbucks. You're sitting next to me, and start brushing yoru hair...one of those hairs comes loose, and gets into my coffee. EEEWWWW!!!

I have extreeemely long hair, so if it's windy I'm more-or-less forced to comb my hair in public. Not that I mind at all, people (mostly other females) often compliment me on how pretty it is if I'm brushing it. I normally try to find a ladies room just so I can use the mirrors there, but bus, park, etc is okay.

Well it depends. I would not comb my hair at a table where people are eating. However lets say you are at the mall, a quick swipe of a comb or brush is acceptable. But not a long session. If you have to do more than a quick swipe, then find a public rest room.

I think there are public places where it would be appropriate and places where it would not. I would not do it at a table, for example or in church while the preacher is speaking. But I might comb my hair in a hallway or in a meeting room before the meeting started or something like that.

No it's kind of bad manners...I don't want to be in a elevator and have someone dropping flakes or hair all over me...eeew...if they do it in a car, or in a restroom, I mean that's where you would "groom" yourself.

So I don't think people should comb their hair in public...would you cut your nails in public? I think not.

Still I can see young girls getting into a tizzy over this....I'm sure they comb their hair at school by their lockers or anywhere at all whenever they please...but in general, especially for adults I think it's just more inappropriate to do so.

Sure, it's OK. At least they're making the effort to look neater, which is more than can be said for a great number of folks out there. Especially in this day and age, when people are always on the go, it's totally OK.

Combing your hair in public, outside of a restroom or your car, is bad manners --- particularly in a restaurant. Grooming is "personal hygiene" and should be done in private.

I think it's rude because stray hairs drop all over the place, you don't know if their hair is clean, and there is something trashy about someone who grooms in public. It's like watching woman on the subway not just put on lipstick, but whip out literal suitcases and CAULK their faces. It's just gross.
