No correct spelling, no correct grammar...not even the odd capitalization or punctuation mark! Can someone please explain what is going on?
As a note, I am part of aforementioned generation, and I do use correct English.

We live in the "me" generation where everyone thinks that so long as I'm happy, everyone is happy. They are not out to impress anyone by using "too" versus "to" correctly, they just want to get all communication over with as soon as possible so they can do whatever it was that was entertaining them last. (Usually some inane clip on YouTube that is certainly not furthering anyone's education.) They really couldn't care less if the other party has to struggle and read aloud just to gather a general gist of what's being said. That would cause too much caring of others on their part.

I agree with you....100%! I have read so many blogs on this website and, to be very honest, sometimes I don't even understand other people's questions because they are not spelling words correctly, using run-on sentences, sentence fragments, etc.

I think that people don't use correct grammar not only because many of them don't know how to, but also because they think that since they are communicating in an informal online community, they don't need to use correct grammar.

That's funny. The first element of your detail, from "No..." to the exclamation mark, is not a complete sentence, and "aforementioned" deserves "the". Your use of correct English, insofar as grammar is concerned, is not beyond dispute. As to the generation's problem, your supposition is too general to be proven or meaningful and may itself be a symptom of the problem you pose.

It's because of computers and people being too lazy to type correctly.
They've gotten so used to the shorthand way of writing out words that eventually it transfers into their actual writing. I don't know how many times I see the word "definitely" spelled incorrectly, and how people still get "to, too, and two, their, there, they're, its, and it's mixed up.
I suppose many people just don't care, and if the words are recognizable enough then... "u mite as well spel that way n-e-wayzz"
With spell check, it's kind of sad.

Well why does it matter? This is online where we are free to speak our mindz. This isn't school, I'm not trying to impress you or anybody up on here. That was a nonsensical question. We are a society of people who want things fast and well done. Why am I going to waste my time putting commaz and all that, your no one I am trying to impress. Your generation had its faults, allow us to have ours. I'm 17 going to college to study psychopharmocology. This is just how we are, and the next generation will probably have faults as well. ~1~

Just look at the sad state of our education systems, teachers being forced to teach to the standard of a test rather than teach the basics of education...

At least you have learned your 3 R's.... :)

we shorten things. This is handy in IM (instant messenging) instead of typing out "Going to school is such a frikin waste of time!" we will say "going 2 skool is frikin waste of time" there much shorter and didn't have to spend a lot of time typing a long message that could be short. Ok so this wasnt such a good example but I think i proved my point.

if you are talking about online then relax. it just makes things easier. i personally am a very good writer and i do know how to correctly use grammar and punctuation. but i will tell you that i often dont on here. i like to have my own thing. and i like to know that i do know how to do it when it comes down to it. i speak correctly when i need to, but not always. i listen to rap music with harsh lyrics and play gory video games, but i am capable of separating that from my real life and entertainment. nothing is wrong with this generation anymore than others. we just have more outlets of which to express ourselves through which sources are more available for you to judge us.

This generation is just very lazy, and doesn't care at all, except a few people.
