The first time you delete an email, it just goes to the 'deleted items' folder which should be listed on the left hand side. You have to delete it from that in order to fully delete it. However, even if you have deleted the email twice, Outlook should make automatic backups of your Outlook file (.pst) as long as you have not turned autoarchive off. Use the help key and look for archive for more information. Alternatively look at link below as to how restore archived items (Outlook 2003)

If you have not deleted the items from either your deleted folder in Outlook or if so have not emptied the recycle bin, then yes you can retrieve the mail items. First check your deleted items folder within Outlook. If it is not there, then try looking in the recycle bin, and if it is right click and then select "restore" and it will be placed back into the spot it was originally in prior to the deletion.

If both of these are not viable, you can try a System Restore to see if you can retrieve a system state prior to the deletion, but this is a long shot. To do a system restore point (and please note that any software or configuration changes made after the restore point date will be lost) go into the Start Menu, then to All Programs, then to Accessories, then to System Tools, then click on System Restore.

Once in System Restore, select a date which is prior to the deletion and then follow the onscreen instructions, and when that is complete reboot. After you boot go and see if you can locate the e-mail you deleted.

One last comment before you do the Restore process: Write down any configurations you remember making which were after the restore date, software installed and any other files you downloaded such as pictures, music, ect. You can then go and place them back onto your system.

Good luck and have a nice day.

if you delete something from your inbox it will go to the deleted box.
if you are on a network and outlook is on a main server than you can get the emails from that.

It should be in a folder called "deleted items", you can drag it back to your in-box.
If you deleted it whilst pressing shift, or deleted it from the deleted items folder, then it is gone forever.
