It just depends on how fast you can get threw it and weather or not you have to go to another doctor for something. When I went threw I had to go to a ear doctor to have mine cleaned out, they shot water and peroxide into my ears and I could feel it all the way inside my head. That added about 2 hrs onto my day. So usually plan on a whole day. As far as blood work and urinalisis probably about a week or 2. If your worried about testing positive for pot just let your recruiter know and tell him give u a few days to make sure your clean. Most of them are pretty cool and wont make a big fuss, just as long as your clean when you go to meps and basic. Blood work all they test for is STD's cholestoral and stuff like that. Also dont drink the night before you go to MEPS, they gave us a breathalizer when I went threw mine.

It takes most of the day -- the physical is pretty comprehensive, because they don't want to find out halfway through boot camp that you have some medical condition that will keep you from completing basic training or will prevent you from performing the job task you've signed up to do (pilots can't be color blind, for instance... neither can electricians, for that matter)

As for blood and urine tests, those only take a few days, a week at the outside. It depends on what you're nervous about -- if you took drugs in the past couple of months, they might find traces, so you should own up to it beforehand. There are waivers that will still allow you to join even though you've taken drugs before, but woe betide you if you take them during your tour. As for health conditions they might find, it's a good thing to have the tests done, because it's a free physical -- wouldn't you rather know that you're pre-diabetic ahead of time, so you could make some lifestyle changes and prevent it, rather than waiting in ignorance until you suddenly and unexpectedly drop to the floor in a diabetic coma?

Fair winds and following seas, shipmate.

My husband does army physicals and yes it takes a long time. Meps is a total in processing, your first full day in the military! Plan to be there all day! They'll not only do your physical they'll arrange some of your pay information and assign you to your basic training site! Bring a camera because they'll swear you in and they will be happy to take a picture of you doing it! They'll provide your lunch too.

As for finding something wrong with you don't worry about it too much. Usually if they find something wrong it is rather minor and if they can't fix it themselves--with say a course of anti-biotics or perhaps a new set of glasses. They'll let you go to your normal doctor to see if they'll fix it. My husband had to go have a hernia operation when he first in-processed! This delayed his inprocessing but was no big deal!

Good Luck!

Expect to be there most of the day. I processed in a large city, I'm from Philadelphia, so there were a lot of us processing in the same day. I guess if you are in a smaller city there might not be that many. Usually the blood tests are back within 2-3 weeks, but they probably won't tell you unless there is something wrong.

Do you have reason to believe they are going to find something wrong?

Depending on where you are and how many people process with you determines how long it will take. There is not much to be worried about as far as blood and urine test. They mostly test for most major problems. But the only one they care about is your Drug test mostly.

The military is notoriusly slow at some things, I got to MEPS about 6 AM and didn't leave for basic until at least 4PM. You go to this room and wait, then get checked for 1 thing, wait, go to the next room, wait...... and so on.

If you didn't have to wait before and after each step, I'd say it would be over in maybe 2 hours.

You'll be at MEPS all day, so it doesn't matter how long the physical takes. If you have to take the ASVAB, you'll be there longer.
