I have a 2000 Tiburon so I can only vouch for the 00-01 generation. Mine is very reliable, I've had it for 6 years now and I have yet to encounter any major problems. And it's enduring the cold Chicago weather very well. I often travel to and from Chicago to Ohio and the seats are very comfortable and the gas mileage on the highway is not too bad, I usually get around 32 mpg. In-town gas mileage is not so good though, I usually get 20-25 mpg. I'm not sure about '03 Tibs and up but the automatic transmissions for 97-01 have some problems so it's best to get a manual transmission if possible.
And I agree with Andy W, I've been to many junkyards all over the Chicago area looking for parts for my car or the options that I didn't get and I have only ever seen 1 Tiburon (it was a '99) and it was in an obvious crash. Maybe that says something about Tiburons and their reliability.
Hyundai has come a long way from where it used to be, producing some of the worst cars for reliability (1986-1994) in the automotive market. Hyundai can now boast at least acceptable reliability and the prices for these cars are excellent.

Well like most korean made cars the reliability is an issue. However, they are a very sturdy car. They take well to upgrades, they have a nice amount of aftermarket support, they arent a very common car, so finding oem parts may be an issue. Im a big junkyard aholic, and ive never seen one in a junkyard.
The most common problems with them include:
Harsh transmission, which if needed replacement requires an entire transaxle replacement.
If you plan on making it your daily driver, the clutch problems wont be much of an issue, but if you plan on storing the car over extended periods of times, youll need to get the clutch fluid changed regulary.
Early tiburons had a problem with premature timing belt wear.
A big history of the AC compressor failure.
Newer tiburons have been well refined from previous models (pre-2000), but they dont hold their value well, and are moderatly expensive to fix.
If you want a more reliable new car for the price, look at suzukis. I have yet to hear anything negative about suzukis in the last 4 years.

Take a look at the automotive forums, particularly the 03 Tiburons. There is a class action lawsuit because the transmissions are so terrible in these cars. Hyundai's 100,000 mile warranty? Yeah right, they won't honor it. Plus, if you buy a used one, that warranty doesn't come with it. The fine print states that it is a non-transferrable warranty.

NOOOO. Tiburon is probably one of the best cars from Hyundai but it is not A GOOD CAR!
Let me put it this way, Hyundai is wosrt than a ford automobile but as bad as a KIA because it is the same manufacturer. Get a HONDA instead or a Toyota

seems clever. How is it routinely? Is greater substantial than seems. i in my view dont like Tiburons, they actually dont look all that cool. Its like a undesirable mans activities automobile. no longer somewhat cool, yet no longer somewhat shitty. those autos are no longer equipped with too plenty high quality. identity say choose for it however in case you care greater approximately seems than restoration charges. constantly purchase a automobile with a low resale value. You get much greater bang on your greenback! Get a z24 cavalier v-6. a great form of skill, sharp seems, very decrease priced. solid automobile.
